Arlen S.

After retiring from the United States Navy in 1995 from an injury sustained in the Persion Gulf, Mr Arlen Sykes went back to school to get his teaching degree and masters and begin a career in education. He is active with the school not only as a 5th grade teacher, but also serving as student council advisor, broadcast advisor, Babysitter's club advisor, Aerospace educator and advisor for the Colina Aerospace club. Outside the classroom and school, he is on Mesa Community College Alumni Board of Directors, games management team for Special Olympics Arizona, Bon Vivant Committee for Boys and Girls Club of East Vally, Red Cross CPR/1st Aid instructor just to name a few. He and his wife also have a son who is a senior at Mountain Pointe High School. His teaching style sets a standard in the classroom for personal responsibility and appreciation for each other. He is loved by his students and they remember him well beyond their middle school and high school years. If ever there was a teacher that deserves recognition for all that he does, it is Mr Arlen Sykes.
