William harvey Myers

It all started back in December 2005. My husband, William, had a stroke at the age of 43. He is so dedicated to his family, that he went back to work 3 weeks later. In 2011, he was hospitalized for 4 days for kidney failure. Again, right back to work the day he was released. That's when we found out about the possible prostate cancer. The first urologist said there was no way because William was only 48. No tests were done. My husband had to use self catheters because his prostate was enlarged. The entire time, he is working to support me and his 3 boys. Thanks to his PCP not accepting the diagnosis, we were referred to another urologist who ran tests and did a biopsy. Prostate Cancer Stage 1. Appeared to have been there for 5-10 yrs. We were told 5 days before William's 49th birthday. Due to his health issues, i.e. history of the stroke, we were referred to a specialist here in Phoenix. Our, his, options were radiation or surgery. Radiation was never an option in his mind. He knew surgery ment time off work. Time we could not afford. He worked extra hrs to save money. His surgery was March 26th, 2012. He wanted to go back to work the very next day. He turned 50 exactly 4 months after the surgery. For the next 3 yrs, he will have blood test, PSA, done every 3 months. His second, post surgery, will be in a couple weeks. Then every 6 months for 2 yrs and once a yr for life after that. His boy love him so much. He is teaching them great values and the importance of working to support the ones you love. William Harvey Myers is a hard working, loving, dedicated family man who won't even let the ugly face of cancer slow him down.

Tiffany Myers
