My mother, Lucille, was diagnosed with stage 4 small cell lung cancer in February, 2012. We were especially concerned because her son is a colon cancer survivor and her youngest daughter is a breast cancer survivor. We started aggressive chemo treatments right away. After 3 rounds of 3 in a week, she had another pet scan which significant shrinkage in the mass. Then 3 more rounds of 3 in a week. After a total of 9 rounds she endured 13 treatments of radiation on her brain because this strain of cancer likes to travel to the brain. She is currently in her last pet scan as I am writing this. This will determine if the cancer has spread. Her oxygen levels have gone from30% to 99.8% since beginning her treatment. She has endured the sickness, night sweats and intense pain and through it all she never lost faith or courage. Her husband is spiraling downhill from Alzheimer's and getting worse every day, but she always keeps going. She is an inspiration to us all and we love her dearly.
