My mother Ann Despain is the most kind-hearted, hardworking, compassionate woman I have ever met. She has taken care of two terminally ill siblings and cared for her mother, father, and step-mother and grandmother on their death beds. She spends every ounce of energy she has serving others. She has been involved in Boy Scouts of America, served in various church organizations, visits the sick and needy, takes dinner to new mothers, and cares for everyone around her. My mother even took her daughter and son-in-law and their four children into her home after they ran into hard times. She is not financially well off but is still willing to give aid whenever she can (even to the detriment of her own situation) to help someone out She spends her days working with children who have special needs and training others to work with individuals with disabilities. She volunteers each Sunday at the Arizona Training Center in Coolidge. She has four children and nine grandchildren. She has also filled the role of mother and grandmother to several nieces and nephews and their children after their parents (her siblings) died. She devotes time and energy to each of these people helping them feel like they are extraordinarily important. Her grandchildren, children in the neighborhood and children at work affectionately call her Grandma Ann because each of them has been made to feel special by her. My mother has not always had the easiest of lives but she has managed to turn her hardships into learning experiences and remained positive. She also has used her experiences (good and bad) to help others. My mother teaches and leads by example. She is not a showy person and does not like to be the center of attention. If there in an event going on you can bet my mother is in the kitchen helping, clearing tables, or making sure everything runs smoothly. She is a behind the scenes kind of person and is always busy taking care of someone. I love my mother and feel so lucky to have grown up with her as my role model!
