Bill Austin passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2010. After nearly 20 years behind the KEZ 99.9 microphone with Beth McDonald, Austin wrapped his last show on Feb. 25, much to the surprise of listeners. Prior to anchoring the KEZ's top-rated morning show with McDonald, Austin was the weatherman at Channel 12. No arrangements have been announced yet. Friday's morning show on KEZ, which has continued with Beth and Friends, will be a tribute to Bill..

Working with Bill hasn't been a job, it's been a joy. . . . The chemistry has been there since day one. Bill was not just my radio partner. He was the brother I never had. A couple of days before he passed, while at the hospital, he told me, "I sure miss doing that little radio show." This morning, in true Bill fashion, he signed off at exactly 10 o’clock.

3TV is saddened as we’ve lost a member of Arizona’s Family. From the cooking show to the radio, Bill Austin did more than just entertain our viewers, he formed deep relationships inside our building that have endured. He was always a joy to work with and never failed to bring a smile to the job or to deliver his wit, charm and creativity when called upon. He was a special guy…a big brother or maybe a favorite uncle…whose sweet personality and warmth touched our hearts and our funny bone. If you asked Bill what he knew about cooking, with a big smile he’d say “Absolutely nothing!” The opposite may be true. He could always cook up a laugh or a reason to make you smile. Bill, you are missed.
-- 3TV
When there are lines upon my face from a lifetime of smiles,
When the time comes to embrace for one long last while,
We can laugh about how time really flies,
We won't say goodbye 'cause true love never dies, You'll always be beautiful in my eyes.
-- Joshua Kadison
The last time I saw bill was at dinner with a group of friends. We laughed and had a great time. Bill didn't want anyone to feel sorry for him, and I'm sure he wouldn't want us to now. So laugh and remember the good times, and be thankful that there were so many good times to remember.
-- Marty Manning
Bill, I know you told me not to cry, but I cant help it. You were there when I needed you, making me laugh when I lost all hope. What I'd give for just one more of your BILLY hugs. I will miss you always...and until we meet again ...I'll try and heed your often spoken words to me "Lisa, don't dwell on the big 'ol sack of woe" Love you, my Dear Friend!
-- Lisa Hobaica
I will miss you, Bill. I learned a lot from you over the years and truly valued our relationship. Many of our emails ended with the prompt to enjoy a good bottle of red wine, a steak and some great music. I will celebrate you with that!
-- Susan Karis (EVPO Western Region)
Bill, I will always think of you while enjoying a Pearl martini, thanks for the good times.
-- Jeff England (Market Manager)
You probably never appreciated how well-loved you were. Since you've gone to a more peaceful place, I can offer this to you: Your forever fans are calling like crazy, saying the nicest things about you. You touched millions in the most profound way, with humor. There are more smiles than tears today in our Valley because of your lasting gift.
-- Smokey Rivers (Director of Programming and Operations
I know how very lucky I am to have not only worked with you but to be able to call you friend. Your humor will forever remain in my mind as your signature…you are the ultimate funny guy. No one like you…a one of a kind gem. Your candor and witt simply unmatched. Your positivity and outlook on life, people and things is inspirational. I feel so fortunate to have been blessed by having you in my life over these past 12 years and know that you will always have a special place in my heart. Your memory will remain with me forever.
-- Linda Little(Director of Sales)
I'm a lucky guy to have known Bill Austin. It was a pleasure hearing him laugh, tell stories and being genuinely nice to everybody. He was a kind, caring and thoughtful individual. Our engineering staff was working diligently to ready the new "Beth and Bill" studio for that coming Monday's first live broadcast from their new broadcast studios. Much to our surprise, Bill walked in to assist with the final touches in the studio. He wanted to make sure that everything was perfect for Beth. He will be missed by many
-- John Baker (Director of Engineering & IT)
Knowing and working with Bill Austin has been nothing short of a privilege. Bill was one of a handful of people that were responsible for getting KEZ on the map - not only as a top radio station in Phoenix, but in the country! His audience knew that what they heard on the radio was also what they would get when they ran into him at the local gas station or local store. What a witty, kind man. A man that touched so may lives, a man that will never be forgotten. Have a safe journey Bill. I will miss you every day.
-- Patty Graham (Director of National Sales)
Kind, Caring, Thoughtful, Good Friend, Amazing,Talented, Genuine, Smart, and Eternal Optimist are just some of the words used to describe Bill Austin.
One other word we used to describe him – hilarious. So it’s o.k. to punctuate our tears with laughter as we celebrate his life.
And how he made us laugh – Captain Billy, Beth & Bill's Cooking show, Bill Clinton and so many others.
He was a most private person; he would not want any of us to know that he was in a battle for his life. After all, his role was to make us laugh, see the funny side of things. The joy of Waking up with Beth & Bill was that he prepared us for the stresses of the day ahead in the most light-hearted way.
When we reflect on Bill’s life, let’s keep the laughter going. Didn’t he want to make us smile by signing off at exactly 10:00 at that notorious age of 55?
-- Vicki Fiorelli (Director of Marketing & Promotions)
Sales Weasel….to most people it sounds degrading but coming from you it always made me feel great. I am a Sales Weasel for the amazing Beth and Bill show. Sales are simple with a guy like you on the microphone. Listeners love you, clients love you and everyone in the Sales Department loves you. You made us smile everyday. KEZ is a special place because of you. I am blessed to call you my friend. I will see you again soon…with crispy bacon and a breakfast burrito!
-- Tom Wintermeyer (KEZ Account Executive)
We join our colleagues at KEZ in mourning the loss and celebrating the life of longtime 12 News weather anchor Bill Austin. Bill’s sense of humor is what we will remember and treasure most. He never missed an opportunity to make us all laugh. Bill was a rare talent who brought humor and kindness to everything he touched and we feel fortunate to have had the chance to work with him for so many years.

A MAN OF HUMOR
OUR BILL AUSTIN
Through all these years we never met
But you filled our lives with smiles
And from 6 to 10 our lives were changed
And our troubles left awhile
We thought of you as family
This love was family strong
You filled our lives with laughter
To your groupies we belong
Our day began with DAFFY DUCK,
BULLWINKLE, and CLINTON too
And we can’t forget your specialty
“WHAT’S THIS WORLD COMING TO”
In the office you were a legend
We always knew who listened
By the sound of sudden laughter
Restraint could not be hidden
Beth and Vin and Lisa
Their laughs were so contagious
In response to your great humor
Is what made the show outrageous
Poor Mamma Jo took lots of heat
From Bill’s sarcastic wit
Her favorite line right back to him
Was, “BILL, PUT A SOCK IN IT”
And though he always called himself
“A MIDDLE AGED FAT BOY”
With Hawaiian shirts and balding head
He could still be someone’s “Boy Toy”
Now have you heard a moose in heat?
That call is load and clear:
It’s like the noise from Bill’s trombone
Those sounds are “SIMULER
Oh, Billy boy, oh, how we ache
Our hearts are filled with pain
To suddenly accept the fact
You won’t be back again
Now close your eyes and pictures this
There’s Austin, Carson the angels and all
It’s heaven’s new section
Called God’s Comedy Central
And as you meet Saint Peter
In robes of flowing white
You say, “Hey Pete nice robe”
Hawaiian shirts would make it right”
Now on to the next step to heaven
A special place we trust
To reach your final resting place
And “THE SWEET BABY JESUS”
So with saddened hearts we see
You on your final flight
And God is now your copilot
As CAPTAIN BILLY says, “Good Night”
By grace ison

I was devastated to hear of Bill's passing. He has been a part of mine and my children's mornings for many years. My children loved him and the first thing they would say when they got in the car to go to school would be "put on Bill!" I followed him for so many years, starting from when he was a weatherman. His joyful persona and jokes brightened my day. How dearly he will be missed! I am sure he is cracking jokes on the other side now, making so many people happy! We love you, Bill, you will be sorely missed. May you rest in peace.
Lynette S
Rest in Peace - Bill. You and the morning team could always make me laugh. There were many mornings I arrived at work close to requiring a change of underwear.... I felt (as did many others) that you were my friend - even though I never met you.... You never tried to sugar coat what you said in order to be politically correct - you just spit out what you thought and to heck with anyone else.... You had a sense of right and wrong and stood up for your beliefs.... I so admired that in you.....
Beth and Vinnie - you are both such strong people - Vinnie for doing the show Wednesday Morning without breaking up - and Beth for the show today. I imagine Bill had much input about the music played today - I can just see him making a list for you - so you wouldn't have that on your 'To Do' List.
I think a memorial scholarship/s would be just the thing to allow a permanent remembrance of this giant personality. I have sent a small check (20.00) to get it started - I challenge all fans to do the same......

It has been a couple of weeks, but still missing Bill- thank you Beth for keeping his memory alive, with the Friday tribute. What a talent and he is so missed
-- Jamie G
I have listened to the Beth & Bill show for many years as I have lived in Phoenix area my entire life. My friends would think I am crazy when we would go somewhere in the morning and I tuned my radio to 99.9 instead of the popular radio station with the most up to date music. We would laugh the entire car ride. Beth, I am sending my regards to you and your KEZ family for the loss of your friend and coworker. May he rest in peace now. He is looking over you now and probably telling us to continue laughing. He knew how to turn a bad morning into a good one.
Thanks Bill for all the good shows and all the laughs! I will Miss You!

Long time listener
Beth,
I so enjoyed you and Bill on the air for the last 19+ years. I am sure this has been a very difficult time for you. I was happy to see the support you had from your family during the tribute show. I have listened to you and Bill since your first day and will also miss Bill. The two of you on the air together was very special.
Take comfort in your memories, and strength from your friends and family,
Carrie Maroney
So many comments on this site tell of our great sadness at the loss of Bill Austin. Most of this is due to Bill’s magnetism and talent, but it also shows how much Beth and Bill were perfect for radio. Radio is a personal medium...allowing two people in a studio to become our friends and be there with us as we drive to work, face personal joys, problems, and go about our daily lives.
It’s heartbreaking when such a good friend goes away.
- Celeste
I knew Bill Austin when we worked together at WFRV-TV. He was the star weather man and I was a reporter, then a producer. Bill might be the funniest man I have ever known. He had a wonderful way of making light of things that happened in a newsroom and made us all laugh. I gave Bill a going away party at my house, when he left WFRV. Trouble was Bill never left. He was having so much fun even as the last person at the house. At about 5am, my husband and I said, 'Bill, we're going to bed.' And said 'ok mind if I sleep on your couch?' I only got about an hour's worth of sleep and went to the TV station to work...it never was the same without Bill. :)

I've been in the Valley a long time, and I first remember him as the funny weather guy. When he showed up on radio with Beth it made mornings just perfec, What a great way to start the day!
Such a sad, sad loss for our community - he lifted spirits every day. What better contribution there could be to the world. I just don't know. Like other listeners have said, those funny mornings got me through some very tough times of my own.
Thank you Bill for all the laughs. You will be missed.

Dear Bill,
You will be truly missed. I miss laughing with you every morning and all
doing the day at work. I enjoyed the Memorial on Friday and I listen to
it again today. I laughed and cried while I listened to Beth and Bill today.
I know he will truly be missed by all.
Debbie Hlavacek
Bill will truly be missed by everyone in Arizona and beyond. He brought lightheartedness, laughter, and was the voice of tempered reason when things got a bit dicey. He was one of a kind!
"Thanks for the memories."

I have been listening to Beth & Bill and now Beth & Friends since we
moved to Arizona in June 1980. Through the years times have not always
been the best; however, I always knew the humor on KEZ-999.com could
make the current situation easier.
I never met Bill however, he always seemed as a really caring individual
and, of course, Beth also. With Bill's passing a part of the KEZ
history has ended. I know Bill is in Heaven watching all of us. In
true Bill fashion he is probably trying to figure out what all the
excitement is about.
God Bless you and Rest in Peace,
Diane from Glendale
I’m sad and in shock at the loss of such a great person. I’ve got only fond memories of him. Always warm, friendly and willing to give a smile and a hand. He was not your typical radio personality. Glad I got to work at the same awesome station for most of the 90’s. He made my days better.

In 1986 I was new to the Valley along with Bill Austin. I watched him on the local news and developed a “weatherman” crush on his engaging personality.
On April 1, 1986 there was a note on my desk that he had called me. He had just met my Boss at a charitable auction over the previous weekend and he had mentioned my name to Bill. So I got all excited and returned the call. We played telephone tag for a few hours and eventually hooked up. It was about 10 seconds into the call when I realize I had been the recipient of an April Fool’s Joke and Bill had never originally called me. In Bill’s true quick witted way, he turned awkwardness into laughter and said “let’s have the last laugh on them” He invited me down to the news station to watch the 6:00 news and invited me to dinner afterwards. It was a great time. I often wanted to call KEZ 99.9 on April Fool’s Day and thank him for such a random act of kindness. The memory has lasted for all these years. He was a magnanimous man and one we will all miss. I can only believe that Heaven’s been a happier place since his arrival.
Thanks Bill for being a great guy.
Dee
Bill and I worked together at WFRV-TV in Green Bay beginning in 1979. I was the anchor. He was the weather man. Bill was the best man in my wedding way back in 1981. My wife Kay and I have kept him in our thoughts. He was the center of many fond memories.
I will always remember a crazy ski trip to the Upper Peninsula, when we had to have our car hauled out of the ditch by a pair of scary hunters (think “McKenzie Brothers” meet “Deliverance”). You can imagine how Bill would have handled that.
My condolences to all who knew Bill.

Your tribute to Bill was beautiful and thank you- I did not want that to end, as I wish Bill was still with us- but I laughed again and cried at the end- but we all know Bill is without pain and making them laugh at the Pearly Gates, and Beth- thank you for sharing and being with him in his final days and hours- You are a remarkable woman!!
Jamie
I don’t know if I’ll ever find the right words to express the heaviness in my heart when I heard of your passing. Moving here to metro Phoenix in 1992 was a difficult time for me, but watching you doing the weather on 12 News and listening to you and Beth every morning helped a great deal. You were wonderful, funny, and brought happiness to my sad times…and you will be missed greatly by many, including me.
Thank you for being you.
Love always, Wendy B. from Gilbert ļ
Rest in peace, Bill. You will be greatly missed.
My condolences to Beth and the KEZ staff.

Beth,
Although I had a short commute, I always made sure to tune in to listen to you and Bill. Hearing the teamwork and close relationship you shared made me appreciate that the people we work with are truly family members in so many ways.
It was clear that you and Bill were more than coworkers and you made all of us believe in the power of friendship. I listened the day you said goodbye to Bill and was feeling your heartbreak at the thought of going on without the person who I am sure made coming to work more than a job but a chance to work with someone you learned to lean on and support at the same time. Bill will be missed and our hearts go out to you and know that you will spend each day honoring his memory and your friendship.
Lori Mora
What a beautiful tribute the show was today. We all felt like we knew Bill and that he was just one of us. It was nice to get even closer to him today as personal memories were shared of times long past and of just this last week. How funny. How smart. How kind. I remember one guest saying a few years ago how impressed they were with Bill because of the way he treated Beth. I agree. He always let Beth be Beth and didn’t step on her or have to “one-up” her. He was a real gentleman that way.
Thanks for sharing so much of yourselves in today’s tribute. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
Melissa S.
We moved from Arizona 10 years ago and my husband and I have both fond memories of Bill Austin. When we both heard the news we had some great memories of Cooking with Beth & Bill and listening to you all. Beth & staff we are so sorry for your loss, we know how hard it can be. We are praying for all of you, thank you for the tribute & we listened online & loved it!
With Sympathy,

All I can say about Bill's passing is, "What's This World Coming To"?
He will be so missed.

There is nothing that can be said that hasn't been already. I remember when I first moved here and we were at the Salt River during one of our "hot" summer days. Bill was out at the river and interviewed me. It was the year that many people were drowning. What a great man! His laughter will continue in our hearts. Beth, what a strong woman you are and he was so Blessed to have you has a friend. You worked together for a reason. God Speed and God Bless!

I loved the Beth & Bill show, what a dynamic duo! I will miss the wonderful, funny and bright star “Bill Austin”. I look forward to many more years listening to “Beth” and I know Bill’s spirit will be around for you and us.
God Bless you all at KEZ!

Just got back from Kauai and heard the news of Bill's passing and I am heart broken. I never "knew" Bill on a personal level, but Have met and worked with the show and I gotta say Bill sure was a naturally funny man, always made the grueling mornings a lot easier.
Radio will never, ever be the same without Bill, he was an awesome person and will always be remembered each and every time that radio is turned on.
Jason @ TMZ
You made me laugh for years and years and years. The day you passed, you made me cry. Thank you Bill Austin for everything you never knew you did for me.
Mike Jones
Words cannot express my sorrow at Bill's passing. Friday's show made me feel a bit better after listening to it at work. My hats off to KEZ for doing that tribute show as I'm sure it eased the sorrow of many, getting that one last dose of Bill. Thank you thank you thank you. Beth I know you are a strong lady and all your listeners will help you get through it, for you are just as loved as Bill was.
Sincerely,
Dawn Lee
When I first moved to Arizona 14 years ago and started listening to the show I thought Beth and Bill were married – such great rapport with a bit of banter that only close friends and family can have. I never had the pleasure of meeting Bill in person but like everyone else I felt I knew him. He made us laugh which is a gift - Just a wonderful spirit. I especially loved the shows with the psychics and Bill describing his Guardian Angel (I think his name was Clarence) who was a big, hairy angel who smoked cigars and drank. I see him now with his angel enjoying his new journey.
Rest in Peace Bill Austin – you are loved.
Sure will miss Bill. Especially when Christmas comes around and all those crazy novelty songs are played on KEZ. When my family moved to the Valley in 1992, we had so much fun learning about our new home by listening to Beth and Bill in the morning and that wacky weather guy on Channel 12!! In recent years, I have loved seeing both Beth and Bill on the Channel 10 morning show too. Thank you so much for the wonderful tribute show on Friday. I thought it would be easier to write this by now, but the tears still come. My deepest sympathy to everyone in the KEZ family and I know Bill will continue to make us all laugh whenever we remember him.

Phoenix
I did not personally know Bill, but I felt like I had. Just listening to the Beth & Bill show brighten my days. I loved listening to "What's This World Coming Too". It just amazed me how you were able to find so many articles that talked about the dumb things people did (the web I bet). Whenever you did your Birthday Corner and someone did not note their age, both you and Bill would say they are 55, now our beloved Bill will be forever 55 for us on his birthday. Bill you are loved by many and will be missed by many. Rest in Peace Bill!
Beth and Friends, what a wonderful tribute to Bill you had on Friday. It made me laugh. It made me cry. Just as Bill did when he was with us.
Sincerely,
Sharon Loyd
When I think of radio I think of Bill. Hearing Bill's voice first thing in the morning is synonymous with the sun rising. Bill was always laughing and seem to be having a good time. Through life's trials and tribulations you have made me laugh when I didn't think I would ever laugh again.
I adjusted to your retirement even though it made me sad. I thought you earned the time to do things your radio schedule just didn't allow. I did not know of your illness—You hid it well. Knowing that I will not hear your voice, share your humor ever again makes me very sad.
You will always be in my thoughts whenever I laugh or just think I won't laugh again. You will be missed more than I can say!
A long time loyal fan
Debbie
I have never before been so touched by a radio personality as I have with Beth and Bill. My day was not the same without you and although I know you needed your vacations, I would count the days when you would come back after Christmas, so I could listen to you again. The surprise announcement regarding Bill’s retirement was a sad day, because it would mean never again hearing the impressions, funny comments and everything else Bill did that made me laugh out loud in my car when I was alone. But it was ok though, because Beth would stay on and I could listen to her and the rest of the gang. Then when it was announced that Bill had passed on…well, I wanted to cry. I was so sad for all of the staff at KEZ and for all of us listeners who enjoyed having him in our lives. I wanted so much for it to not be true. I will never forget him, he will live on in my heart and memories. And heaven will now have our funny man up there to entertain for all eternity. RIP, Bill. You will be sorely missed.

I can’t believe this funny, delightful man is gone. I met Bill through work at a senior community where his mom lived. I hadn’t heard of the morning program, so all I knew was this woman was very proud of her son whom she had adopted but loved as her own. After I met Bill, I could easily see that he was the light in his mother’s life. I had the privilege of enjoying Bill’s humor, wit and intellect as I enjoyed many conversations with him and his mom. I will miss talking and laughing with both of them and I want to send my deepest sympathy to Beth as I know she has truly lost a brother. Bill Austin will be truly missed by many people.
Thanks,
Carmella
Bill and his wonderful humor will live on in our hearts! Beth, Lisa and Vinnie, my deepest, heartfelt sympathy and prayers go out to you in your time of great loss. Your tribute is amazing…

For 20 years I drove to work and worked with Beth & Bill. My heart is heavy and so saddened at Bill’s passing. My mornings were brightened and filled with smiles and laughter as I drove to work. I would sit in my truck and finish listening to “What’s this world coming to” or whatever conversation was going on – I didn’t want to miss one second! There was such a chemistry between the two of you, you just fit so well together. What wonderful memories those years created for you! Even though I never met Bill, I am so grateful that this wonderful person was part of a team that helped start each day for 20 years with smiles and laughter.
I am going to miss Bill, but I have such great memories that will always bring a smile to my face and heart.

I listen to your (Beth & Bill/ Beth & Friends) show every morning on
my way to the gym, but unable to listen to the ENTIRE show....bummer!
Especially, Friday's show, I would LOVE to listen to it all!! (but unfortunately, can't ) Will Friday's show be on your blog? ( I hope
so) I'm SURE there a lot of listeners feeling the same!
Love you, Beth, BILL & gang.....Maria
My husband and are are shocked and saddened by the loss of a great and amazing talent by the name of Bill Austin. He and you, Beth, were a joy and such a bright spot during the day...so many many days with such fresh and authentic sharing and interaction - what a team! We laughed and we cried over your antics. And congratulations to the management team whose wisdom in supporting the Beth and Bill Show was extraordinary...all the decisions over the years to guide and keep your partnership solid and lasting was a blessing to us in countless ways. There really was no competition for this kind of collaboration and giftedness. We can't imagine the loss you all are experiencing but we hope and pray that knowing so many care will be a comfort to you.
Bill, you will be missed so very much ~
Gary & Judy Thompson
I was sad to hear about our great loss. I have been a dedicated listener for over 14 years. KEZs morning crew made my long drive to work so much fun. I laughed and cried with you and once you left, I thought that maybe you would call in every now and then. I will miss your laugh and your voices.. My fav was Capt Bill.
Beth and Vinnie - I can not even imagine your pain. Just know that you are loved by so many. Thank you for having such a great show.
Thank You,

I have listened to Beth and Bill for more years than some listeners may have been alive!! Always fun in a wonderful way, thank you for many laughs during long commutes. You were loved!

I have been waking up with, driving to work with, and on occasion listening at work to Beth and Bill since I arrived in the valley 13 years ago. Its truly been a pleasure and I’m feeling greatful that I was able to be a part of those 20 years. I’m with the rest of you who say its amazing the sadness I feel for someone that I did not know..
My deepest condolences to the whole KEZ family. Beth, thank you sharing your last moments. How very touching and wonderful for you to send Bill off with such love. I send you a Huge hug as my heart is especially breaking for your loss. 20 years with the same man, that’s more than most marriages last these days. I’m looking forward to laughing and crying tomorrow as you honor the middle aged fat guy.
Joyce
My life just won’t be the same, Beth, without Bill!!! I always admired him and laughed at how he tortured your mom!!! Just know that he made a difference to so many of us who had the joy of listening to him each morning.
Bonnie Hoffert
My condolences go out to everybody at KEZ 99.9 for the loss of Bill Austin. I would also like to offer his family my condolences, too. I was surprised to hear of Bill's and Rue McClellahan's passing on Wednesday. I was surprised when he "retired" back in February. In his honor, I will be wearing my Hawaiian shirt Friday and listening to the "Beth & Friends" show all morning. Please keep the listeners posted for funeral or memorial services in the area.
Godspeed, and God Bless, Bill
Deb
Thank you for making me laugh over the last 20 years. You will be missed Bill!
Valerie-Mesa
Rest in Peace Bill, my condolences go out to Bill’s family, friends, Beth and the 99.9 KEZ Radio Station. I was so sad when I had heard the news. He will be missed. I watched Beth and Bill every morning on FOX 10 News and listened to them every morning driving to work. Beth, my heart goes out to you for the loss of a life long friend.
Lorraine J.
Beth & the KEZ Family,
I have listened to you for 20 years. I can not explain my overwhelming grief when I opened my morning newpaper today. It is strange; I have never cried this much for a person I knew so well that never knew me.

Having been in Phoenix since 1956 I have seen the Valley grow in the radio and news media. Although we have had some good ones there has never been a couple like Beth and Bill and certainly no one ever like Bill Austin. Bill certainly hit the top as being the “Best” in characters, quick wit and thoughtfulness to everyone – even when he was singing as “the Big Nun in the back”. Bill will always be with us and just like the puppy that we all love will be waiting over the Rainbow Bridge and will recognize us all when we come. Good Speed.
Sharon Spates
This world has lost someone so great and unfortunately, only this part of the world was able to enjoy it. We have all lost a part of us with his passing. No one could be able to single handedly make the whole state sigh in a loss like he has. He brought so many smiles to us both on TV and Radio and will be soooo missed. Right now he’s smiling down on us and making God laugh at one of his one liners. R.I.P Bill.
Tony G
I have listened to The Beth and Bill show for over 15 years and always eagerly anticipated hearing what funny and outrageous dialogue and impressions Bill would come up with. There were times I'd laugh so hard I'd have tears in my eyes. Being able to make others laugh and forget their troubles even for a short time is a great gift. Bill had that gift to the max. You can bet Bill is making them laugh and feel good wherever is he is now. Thank you Bill!
Best regards,

I was so shocked yesterday when I learned of Bill’s passing. I came to the KEZ website and have been so moved by the outpouring of love for this wonderful man. Although I didn’t know him personally, having listened to him on the radio and watch him on TV for more than 20 years, I felt he was part of my everyday life. He was always able to make me laugh even when I was in the worst of moods in the morning. I know that he will be watching over all of us and making everyone in heaven laugh and enjoy their surroundings. God Bless You Bill. My thoughts and prayers go out to your KEZ family and friends as well. You will be greatly missed.

I have been driving 38 miles to work with Beth and Bill for the last 20 years. It didn’t matter what kind of morning I started out having by the time I got to work, I was not only smiling but most days laughing out loud in the car from listening to your morning show. I can still hear all the different impressions Bill would do, and with spot on timing he was always able to make us feel good even if we didn’t start out that way in the morning. I would look around at other drivers and know they were listening as well, as they would be laughing at the same time I was. From the bantering with Mama Jo, to keeping the Surly Psychic in line, you enriched our lives more than you will ever know. Why didn’t I call and tell you “thank you” when you were still at the station? Please know we will miss you always!! And thank you for 20 years of positive thinking!! You are a great role model.
With deepest sympathy to your family and extended family at KEZ,
Meg Calleo
What a wonderful gentle voice this man had. He and Beth made me SMILE. I so enjoyed listening to Bill on my morning commute from the time he joined KEZ. I'm sorry for your loss Beth and Friends as it appears you are truly a family. Some people make such a lasting impression in one's heart and one of those folks was Bill Austin. He was Arizona's best. I felt sick the day he retired and I have a huge hole in my heart now. My condolences go out to his parents and relatives. Ahwatukee will miss you Bill.

Years ago I was walking through Dillards in Fashion Square Mall and Bill was with Beth talking to someone from the store. I was pretty much the only person nearby so I kind of lagged nearby to just get a glance at Beth and Bill. Well Bill saw me “hanging” and just leaned back, gave me the biggest smile and waved at me…I’ll never forget how that made me feel. Bill will be missed by many…especially me.

Your daily presence, even though on the radio was such a joy to me as I made my way to work. Sometimes I would laugh so hard at your comments back to Beth. I loved Scooby Doo and Clinton, you were such a hoot.
We will miss you Bill, you made a difference in so many listeners daily lives, you were able to make us forget, even for just a little while, about the day to day stress, eased by your funny lines and laugh, but we know you are in a better place……..….
Thanks for making my, and so many others morning commutes such a joy.
To Beth McDonald & Friends, all at KEZ, I will stay an avid fan. My condolences.

Dear Beth and Friends,
I've listened to you and Bill driving into St. Patrick's since 1996. Bill always had something to get me laughing in the morning.
I'll miss the Big Guy a lot! My prayers go out to Bill's family and all of you at KEZ.

One of my most vivid memories is from many years ago – Bill did the weather dressed as a banana. I don’t recall if it was Halloween, or whether he just wanted to dress like a banana – it was probably the latter. My sympathies to all.

Very sad day for the Valley of the Sun.I only listened to KEZ during the Beth and Bill show and at Christmas time. He will be missed as one of the funniest guys on radio. Prayers to his family and friends.
Terry
What a sad day but wonderful legacy. Heavens gates opened and welcomed a great human being.
I am sure he will have them all laughing in no time.
Bill was my morning coffee.
My sympathy to his friends and family.

I will miss Bill so much. I stunned yesterday when I heard the news. I was stunned when he retired in Feb. I moved to the Valley 17 years ago and I was so happy to find a funny radio team, and at the same time a funny weather guy on Channel 12. I've watched Beth & Bill over the years on Cooking with Beth & Bill( loved that show!). I met them once at the Hilton Squaw Peak broadcast in June a number of years ago. I, over the years, has turned to WE listen to Beth & Bill every morning on our way to work/school. My children will always remember Bill as the "greatest" guy on the radio!
Thanks for the memories!
GR Ward
My thoughts go with Bill’s family.
I discovered the Beth & Bill show right after my arrival in AZ from Europe. I have enjoyed it since then. Bill was a fantastic entertainer and the duo with Beth was always a unique moment to share. He will be missed and always remembered.

My mom and I have been listening and watching Beth & BILL since I was 10 years old. Sixteen years later, I can't believe Bill is no longer with us. I remember the Cooking With Beth & Bill show. My mom and I had to watch the show on Saturday before we went out running our errands. I was sad to hear Bill retired, after so many years you feel as though they will be on the air foe eternity. We will all miss his jokes, laughter, and the GREAT MAN he will ALWAYS BE!

It is a very sad day to hear about Bill. I have been listening to Beth and Bill since I moved to Arizona. What a great show. I was so sad that he left the show but to hear that he has passed gave me the chills. I will think of you Bill every time I listen to the show. May God be with you. Thanks for the memories.
Lorraine
I remember Bill as the weather anchor on Chanel 12. Then just as Bill was “checking out” the radio spot with Beth I moved to Las Vegas in ’91. My brother kept me up to date on the shenanigans that the show was up to. When I would come back to visit I always wanted to listen to the show – Bill was so funny, but he had a sense of what was right. When I moved back to Phoenix after my husband passed I found my radio home again with Beth and Bill. I couldn’t wait for the music to stop so I could laugh before I had to face the world. Wow, I still can’t believe that Bill has joined my husband … maybe they can have a good laugh together. Until we meet again…
Lois
Dear Bill,
I will miss listening to you every morning as I have listened to you since you have been on the air in 1990. I am so sad that life has ended for you so soon but I hope that you are in a better place making those around you as happy as you made me and all of Arizona. My condolences to all of Bills family and friends!! My condolences to all of Arizona for we will miss you so!!
Melissa Sands
Faithful listener for many years even after I moved to Texas. God Bless Bill, may he rest in peace and my prayers to his family and many friends. I’m sure he has the angels laughing.

I am so sorry to hear about Bill Austin. I first started listening to him in 1991 when I moved down here from Chicago he always made me laugh when I heard him on the radio. I am going to miss hearing him on the radio every morning.
Krista and Jan
I moved back here after 20 years (military family) and he was the first familiar person on the radio that I remembered...He made me smile every day on my way to work..I feel like a family member is gone..Bill you were a part of alot of families..You will be missed..

I moved to the East Valley from North Carolina in 2008 and have listened to KEZ in the morning since I arrived. I will miss listening to Bill's sense of humor and his ability to make things seem better. I was sad when he retired and am sadder now that he is no longer with us. I feel he was very blessed and pray that everyone will keep him in their prayers.
May God bless him.
Sandy From Chandler.
I arrived here from England in 1990 and stumbled on the Beth & Bill Show within their first couple of days on air while surfing the radio searching for a station that I enjoyed listening to on my way to work. Since then, I woke up with, drove with, and worked with Beth & Bill. They always made me laugh. Sometimes so hard I'd have tears in my eyes and, I'm sure, while sitting at a red light, people must think I'm crazy.
I was listening to the show when Bill announced his retirement and remember thinking "why now?" I never had the honor to meet Bill but, after almost 20 years getting to know him, words do not have to said. This is liking losing a very close, old friend. Bill is in a much better place now... my heart goes out to you Beth because, you have lost so much more.
Peace be with you both!
Jacqui Feeney
I now know what it is like to hear news that is so sad you wonder what happened. I am so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. He touched so many lives and I do not think he ever really knew how special he was to all the people in Arizona. He will be truly missed, especially his laugh.
Sincerely.
Kathy Hoffman Paul
I live outside of AZ. I am not sure why, but I had a sense of Bill's passing this
morning even before I saw the announcement on the KEZ website. Although
I have only been listening to KEZ (via the internet) for about 3 years I am so glad
I got to enjoy the insanity of Beth & Bill.
I spent many a mornings in my office here in PA laughing at their antics. If it wouldn't be for sadness we could truly never appreciate the happiness others bring into our lives. Good bye Bill..you'll be sadly missed. Beth, you will not mourn alone.
Sincerely,
Dwayne Priar
I am stunned at the news. I was sad when he "retired" but this news has devastated me. I always related to he and Beth as I am a single, 55 overweight woman, just as he always called himself a overweight bald guy, who just happened to be my age. Anyway, he was a joy to watch and feel like you knew him.
God bless Bill and of course Beth. I know this has to very hard for her.
Somebody said: “Dying is easy. Comedy is hard.” Hey, Bill might have said that! (I guess I would add: comedy is a comfort.) I’m sure that was true for Bill who is now surprised in Heaven and laughing and laughing. I will look for you there someday, Bill. One of the rare true gentlemen of radio. Knowing you existed and were on my side has made my life so much better. Love to all of the people in the KEZ family. Peace be with you, Beth. Bill, I’m sad that I can’t see you anymore, but I’m happy that you are rid of pain and worry and filled with the light of heaven at last. God Bless you.
Love,
Maggie Brock
How can Bill be gone? I'm in shock! I wish I could hear his Bill Clinton just one more time. Bill must truly have loved his job and friends at KEZ to work so long while he was enduring so much privately. What a loss.
Stu Wilbur
I was out of town when it was announced that Bill had passed away. A colleague, who knew I listened every day, from the way in at five, and then rushed to my office to turn the show on, sent me an email. I am so sorry. I enjoyed his style, banter, and soft caring voice. I can only imagine how Beth feels - hang in their Beth...you are all we have left of a great program. Bill has been missed, but I am sure he will watch over you and cheer you on. Let's keep laughing together...
Kay
I'll miss Cap'n Billy. I'll miss the Swedish guy. I'll miss Bullwinkle Moose. I'll miss Scooby Doo and all of the other characters Bill did. I'll miss Bill, who called me Dana Macarena when he couldn't pronounce my last name. Bill, you were one of a kind.

It was a sad day when Bill retired from 99.9 KESZ. It is an even sadder day now that Bill has left us. He will be sorely missed. I have lived in Phoenix for ten years now, and have enjoyed the Beth & Bill Show throughout all that time. I still enjoy Beth & Friends, but it just is not the same without Bill.
My sincerest condolences to Beth, Vinnie and the entire KESZ family. Bill's playful antics, impressions and quick wit will live on in listener's hearts for many years to come. Bill, thank you for many years of morning radio that started the day off right, and made the morning commute so much easier to bear.

My condolences go out to Bill’s 99.9 KEZ Radio Station family. I was so saddened when I had heard the news. I moved to the valley in 1988 and saw Bill on the channel 12 news as a weatherman. Then when he moved to KEZ, I listened to him and Beth every morning. Christmas time was my favorite.
Beth, my heart goes out to you for the loss of a lifelong friend.

What a joy that you got to truly enjoy "your brother" for 20yrs., Beth -- the hilarious laughs about everything -- he made me feel so alive with all of his crazy interests. This was the first radio station that I listened to on my work after moving from CA. -- when I got to work I was always quoting something crazy from the show. Bill, may you Rest In Peace with all your Amazing Grace.

A letter from heaven
To my dearest family , some things I’d like to say
But first of all, to let you know I arrived okay.
I’m writing this from heaven . Here I dwell with god above.
Here there are no more tears of sadness: here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I’m out of sight.
Remember that I’m with you every morning, noon, and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through.
God picked me up and hugged me and He said , “ I welcome you” .
And when you’ve got me on your mind: I’m walking in your footsteps
Only a step behind and when it’s time for you to go from that body
To be free, remember you are not going… You’re coming here to me!
Bill you will always be remembered and in our hearts we love you!
Thanks ,
Ruby Valenzuela
Hi Everyone,
My son Nathan has been a fan of Beth and Bill since he was 3. From the first time he heard Bill, he always said he was going to grow-up and be just like Bill.
He would laugh and laugh at your show and wish he could be Bill. He’s 15 now and was very sadden to hear the news.
Thoughts and prays to all of you.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. My prayers go to all of his friends and families. I always enjoyed the morning banter with Beth and Bill...I became a listener the day after Beth came to visit me in my restaurant and got hooked... Such a cool fun way to start the day.

My heart, my thoughts, and my prayers go out to everyone at KEZ, specially Beth! I've been a long time listener (since 1988, before Bill joined Beth) and just LOVED listening to you in the mornings. I would have to reapply my make-up many mornings from laughing so much I'd cry, and would have people look at me in the car on my way to work hysterically laughing by myself listening to Beth and Bill. I feel as though I've lost a dear family member, I've gone through everything with both of you throughout all of these years. I've missed hearing him in the morning, but I have to say Beth, you're doing a GREAT job!!
I'm sure Bill's with his hero, Johnny Carson (I loved that man too!), and the many wonderful people he admired. God Bless you Bill, you'll always be in my heart and the heart's of many!

My husband and I moved to Phoenix exactly 20 years ago. Yes, in June 1990.
And right away, Beth and Bill became a part of my life.
I can't believe I am grieving so much for someone I have never met in person, but still, Bill felt like a true friend. He had a light and a joy which surrounded him. So many days, I found myself rolling on the floor laughing because of Bill, and I could hear that Beth was doing the same.
Thank you Bill, for all that you gave us, and for your enormous heart. My heart now goes out to everyone at KEZ, and especially to Beth. To know that you stood there by his side right to the end makes this so special, so meaningful, even despite the pain. You have showed us the true meaning of friendship.

A friend picked me up for lunch on Thursday. I said, “How are you?” she said, “I’m sad”, I said, “Bill?” she said, “Yes”.
Here we were two grown middle aged women, feeling heartbroken about the death of a man we had never met, but knew
So well.
Bill was a joy to listen to; always full of fun and fascinating facts; Beth’s best friend always, you could just tell.
Thank you, Bill for making this world and our lives a nicer place to be.
Condolences to the whole KEZ staff and man like Bill always leaves behind so many friends who never knew they cared so much…….until now.

Phoenix Az. we spent many a morning waking up with Beth And Bill for 20 yrs, my heartfelt condolences go out to all of the Kez family and to Bills family he was truly one of a kind there will never be another like him.

When I first moved to Arizona, I fell in love with FOX 10. I remember waking up everyday to the "Beth and Bill" spot. I dont remember when that was, but seeing Bill in his bright shirts and quirky personality, I fell in love with his way of showing us that we need to let the small things go and to be wild and free. When I woke to the news of his retirement, I was saddened. When I woke up to Alexis and the Hooner talking about Bill's passing, I was speechless. We lost a good guy...WAY TOO EARLY..but we know Bill is up with many people who are looking at him wondering who this funny guy is in the bright shirts. Oh, so many good memories. He is a inspiration to us all, going to work after his treatments and not letting it hinder his job of making us all laugh. My thoughts and prayers go out to Bill's family, the FOX 10 morning team and to Beth and Friends. We need to remember all the good times, and I am sure there are many!
Thanks Bill for putting that smile on my face before work everyday!

I met Bill Austin several years ago when Mr. Methane appeared at the Improv in Tempe. He was a genuinely nice person and made my husband and I feel as if we’d known him for years. I was extremely shocked and saddened to hear of his passing on Wednesday and wish Beth and the entire KEZ family my sincerest condolences. He will be sorely missed.

Beth my wife and I truly think of you as being very strong today I know I was in tears at times we want to thank you for the show today and always will have you and Bill in our hearts and prayers god bless you and may god rest his sole if Bill will let him ha ha you know bill is up to his antic's thank you.

My condolences to Beth and everyone touched by Bill’s too soon passing. I find myself echoing what others are saying. Even though I never met you in face to face, you brightened my days all these years. You made me laugh out loud when there was little to laugh about in my life. And when you would get Beth snorting, I’d laugh even harder. Know you are loved and will be remembered.
Also, thank you Beth, Vinnie, Lisa, Marty and everyone who participated in Bill’s tribute this morning. Even the music throughout this day has been special. May God give you peace in the coming days.

I had the pleasure of meeting Bill earlier this year and have to say that he was as down to earth in person as on the air. He is a true gem of a human being. I miss not hearing him on the air…and will miss his visits to our healthcare facility. Bill’s passing is a true loss to humanity. Rest in peace Bill…your worries are over…may you always be blessed.

I have been listening to Beth and Bill ever since I moved to the Valley in 1999. The “Captain Billy” routine that Bill did so well was my favorite. I wonder if Bill knew just how many people he touched and how many people loved him. What an intelligent, warm person he was. He will be greatly missed.
The tribute to Bill this morning was wonderful. My sympathy and thoughts go out to everyone at KEZ and his family of friends.
Heidi in Chandler
I still can not stop crying and I hope that my tribute will eventually be listed with all the rest. Beth you did a great show this morning and I am amazed at your strength. I never knew Bill and I am not nearly as strong as you! Bill was so very lucky to have you.
Angels must be laughing now that you’re up there, Bill. Your sometimes zany but always intelligent wit has found a new audience with a much broader demographic! Beth, no partner could ever have asked for a more loyal friend at the end. Good for you.
With Bill’s fascination for dates - and the ironies surrounding his time of death on 6-2-10 @ 10am at age 55 (fifty-FIVE!), does anyone know the date and time of Bill’s birth?
- Celeste
Beth,
Hats off to you!!!!! You and everyone involved did an incredible job of putting together the best tribute today……Bill would be so proud. It’s exactly the way he would want to be remembered.

It is with a sad heart that I write to add my thoughts to the myriad of messages. Thank you for having the special programming this morning. I listened while jogging and with tears in my eyes I had some good laughs. I didn’t understand why Bill left the morning show in February after such a successful run with Beth. Obviously we now know the reason and feel bad that as listeners we did not get to express our feelings while Bill could read them. It is comforting to know he had Beth at this side and that he was so well loved by so many people. Let’s hope he knew in his heart how much he meant to so many people. Beth, I can just imagine how you, your family and the rest of KEZ are feeling. Just know that the way you have honored Bill was a truly fitting and lovely good-by to such a terrific talent and person. Thank you. All the best to each of you.
Sincerely,
Linda Feldman
What an incredibly, beautiful show. Don’t know how you all got through it. Bill would have loved it. Take time to heal. God Bless all of you!

The world is definitely a less joyous place without Bill Austin in it.

Weekday mornings without Bill Austin is unthinkable. I'll miss Captain Billy. I'll miss the Swedish guy. I'll miss Bullwinkle Moose, Scooby Doo and all the other characters Bill imitated for fun. I'll miss Bill who called me Dana Macarena when he couldn't pronounce my last name. Bill, you were one of a kind.

Thanks for all the happy memories we have of Bill. Been listing to Beth & Bill for years and it has been a wonderful way to start each day. Bill will be truly missed.

I first met Bill when I was a senior in high school and had to shadow a journalist for the day. I shadowed Kent Dana and he had me stay and watch the live airing of Channel 12's news and Bill was the weatherman. He was so funny and so nice to a 17 yr. old kid. Bill will be so so missed and the we here in AZ will struggle a while to laugh as hard as we did every morning as there just aren't people like him out there.
Thank you to Beth for doing just an amazing job and carrying on and keeping the rest of us smiling and giggling on the way to work. Hugs to the entire KEZ family I know your grief will fade as time passes and will be replaced with just wonderful memories.

It really says something about a person when I’m sitting here with tears rolling down my face mourning the death of a man I never met. If I feel this bad, think of how his coworkers and friends must feel……..A remarkable man.

I've been a fan of Beth & Bill for many many years. I will miss Bill. He is the only person in over 17 years that got a 5 gal bucket of ODORZOUT and we didn't ask why. That was just more info than we needed. He was always a fan of ODORZOUT and spoke about it so many times, we have no way to thank him and tell him how much we appreciate him.

I wanted to send everyone at kez my condolences. My thoughts are with you all. Beth and Bill made each day for my husband and I. My husband loved Bill's sense of humor and it was that, that he looked forward to everyday until he passed in Jan. from Cancer. It now makes me realize how special Bill was, to beable to still entertain people and go through what he did, made him an amazing man. Rest in Peace. Your memories will live on.
Going Home
I arrive by birth, and put on my physical garment.
I see the light, the trees, the flowers the earth and all who encompass it.
I have traveled far to see these things of life.
I have traveled far to feel the sorrows others have.
To see a smile to see a frown shows the feelings we have.
To see joy and to see sorrow shows the emotions we have.
I have traveled many miles, accomplished many deeds.
The most joyous deed was to love.
The most joyous return was to be loved.
I can see the light, and the trees.
I can see the flowers and the earth.
I can see it is time.
My spiritual world enhances.
My physical garment must go.
My spiritual world lies ahead.
I have traveled my time and now I must go home.

Bill was the light of many of our lives, his humor, brought us all so much joy, he was a wonderful man and friend to all.
He will truly be missed my many everywhere. Bill is home now, but our prayers still go out to his friends, Beth, and family.
Thank you Bill, for me 16 years, of laughter, fun and music.

Thank you for a wonderful Tribute Show to Bill this morning. It was wonderful to relive all those great times. What a gem he was and he will be sorely missed. Great job Beth, Lil Vinnie, Mama Jo, Brennan, Shannon Lisa, Marty, the traffic guy. I laughed and cried and loved hearing all the guests tell great stories about Bill.
See you next week--it's just not the same without Bill but Beth and crew, you're doing a great job filling some big shoes (not to mention those elastic pants Bill loved!)
Love and gratitude with blessings to all.
Dr. Kathi Fry
I want to express my deepest sympathy to the entire family of Bill.
May our sadness today be replaced with happy memories of the man
That made us laugh over the years. He’s passing will create a void
That is hard to fill, however, I can just see him in heaven wanting
To know what the next adventure is and how can he be a part of it!
How awesome we had him in our lives and we get to carry him in our hearts.
We are better people having known him in person or on the radio…it
Doesn’t matter.

I work in the Mornings so I was never able to really listen to Beth and Bill. I was not aware that Bill was ill however when I heard he retired I knew it was for a reason. I was saddened to read about Bill’s passing. I work with 10 other ladies at Millennium High School Cafeteria and we always look forward to your Christmas music. 2 out of 12 of us were always ready to hear Christmas music even if it was still November. If there is going to be a time where Bill will be really missed it will be during the Holidays. I want to point out something I read that Beth said in an interveiw, She said Bill had a small circle of friends. Between all his friends and all of his listeners I think he had a huge circle of friends. Beth I know you worked with Bill for a long time and as I listen to your show this Morning I see more that you were his only Family. God Bless you for being there for Bill and thank you for bringing back all of the memories you both made through all of the years together.
Thank you so much Bill, we will miss you so, so much.
Andrea Davirro
Beth and Beth were one of a kind - this morning when you played one of Bills favorite songs I just pictured him doing his dance he use to do swinging his arms back and forth in front of him, oh how that will be missed. There wasn't a moment in you "little show" that was serious all in all just fun. Thank You for sharing with us all the memories this morning. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Bill's family at this time.

What a week this has been..first the loss of Officer Murphy, my Aunt, now Bill. I listened to Beth & Bill every morning. Bill was so funny, and just made you want to listen to the show. Beth, what a wonderful person you are to be with Bill at the end. Your show this morning honoring Bill was very touching. God did good making your Bill's angel. Thank you for your caring and loving him so much! Rest in Peace Bill!

I moved to Arizona in 1989 and was surfing the radio one day looking for a station. I found the Beth and Bill show, there were many mornings that I would listen in and could not stop from having a great day after laughing all morning. The friendship, the attitude, the funny sides of life that came out of the show were priceless and addicting. I loved watching “Cooking with Beth and Bill. I was sad to hear about his passing. I will forever think of KEZ mornings as the Beth and Bill show.
On another note, several years ago I won a Beth and Bill Dinger, on Tuesday, our office was working on a project and we were dinging the dinger all day for every completed task. Sadly, on Wednesday I heard that Bill had passed on.
God Bless you Bill, the KEZ family and friends will never be the same again. I will miss you tremendously. Thank you Bill for all the laughter and keeping making everyone laugh. Beth, keep on smiling and remembering Bill, I know that it is hard remembering Bill today.

Some people leave footprints on our hearts, but Bill left * Laugh Prints * on my heart. God Bless you Bill!

If red roses grow in heaven, Lord, pick a bunch for me ♥ Place them in Bill Austin's arms and tell them they're from me ♥ Tell him that we ALL love and miss him, and when he turns to smile ♥ place a kiss upon his cheek and hold him for a while ♥ Because remembering him is easy ♥ We'll do it every day ♥ There's an ache within our heart that will never go away... Dear Beth,
I have listened to you and Bill since the beginning, and have so enjoyed every show. This morning's tribute has been a wonderful reflection, and has reminded all of us......laughter is necessary to a life well lived, and Bill did that so well.
I was a hospice nurse at one time, and remember a summary by Henry Van Dyke that went something like this.
Standing on a seashore watching a huge ship sail away and admiring the beauty and strength of the vessel. If you watch long enough, the ship becomes a speck just where the sea and sky come together. You might say the ship has gone, but gone where? Gone from your sight only. The diminished size of the ship is in you. And, just at the moment when someone might say "she is gone!", there are other eyes watching her coming, and ready to take up the glad shout: "Here she comes!"
I think from your story this morning that Johnny Carson and Ray Charles are leading that shout!
My sincerest sympathy,
Dianne Deye
I have listened to Beth and Bill for 20 years. Waking up was a happy time and a good start to my day. Mornings will never be the same. I tried so many times on my birthday to have one of the many voices that Bill did sing me happy birthday. I guess someday in heaven. Bill, you will be missed by so many who loved you.

As I was driving to work this morning, I was shocked to hear that Bill had passed away. I have lived in the valley for only 10 years, but have many laugh-out loud memories of Beth and Bill’s morning show, and Bill’s hilarious antics while driving my son to school and me to work. I am glad that for at least a little while, I was able to be a part of the wonderful and side splitting humor of Bill. I am saddened and my heart goes out to all of you who knew him personally. A big loss for us all, and Bill, you will be missed.
Evfa
Bill,
You will always be a part of our life on earth and I know you will be watching from above; not just watching but actively entertaining the angels in heaven. If your quality of life on earth was no longer possible; thank God you were able to take your spirit and move on to a better place for you. We are lucky to have known you and laughed every day with the humor you and Beth gave us. You and Beth were and always will be special to all of us. A celebration of your life will live on forever. I hope you know those crazy shirts you wore bring a smile to my face just thinking of you.
God bless you,
Cathie an avid listener of your show
A beautiful, bright light of humanity has been extinguished. Bill will be greatly missed. He blessed us by his presence and by sharing his gifts and talents with the world. He was a role model, although likely he would not agree. God bless him. I hope reincarnation is real, and I hope he returns after some R&R. This crazy world needs more of Bill Austin.
Thank U, Bill.
Kathryn Hunt, CPNP
I just want to add, that Bill has not only left an impact on the adults,
but has touched the hearts of kids, as well.
I am shocked to learn of Bill Austin's passing. Even when someone is sick you hold on to that hope that a miracle will allow them to be with you longer. Even though I never met Bill personally, he was definetely a part of our family. I am sitting her crying as I write this. I'm 32 years old and have lived in the valley since I was a little girl so I remember Bill from his beginnings as the weather guy on channel 12. I always thought he was so funny and cute, I even had a little crush on him--I always have been a sucker for a man with a great sense of humor! Now as an adult your radio show has really brought me such joy and gotten me through some really hard times. I lost both my parents 5 years ago within months of each other. I remember during those mornings after they passed trying to get up and go on with my life was so hard but I put on the Beth and Bill show in the mornings on my way to work and it was like a ray of sunshine. You gave me the permission I needed to laugh and your upbeat attitude made me know that even through the hard times life is ultimately about enjoying it the most you can while you're here. And I really think that is what you did. I hope that brings all who love you peace, because although your life was cut short I think that you enjoyed and appreciated every moment living it. I believe everyone's life has a purpose and yours was to reach out to people and make them laugh and happy no matter what they may be going through. You had such an amazing gift. I am so sad that I never got to tell you how you have touched my life while you were here, I only hope you are recieving all these messages now. I am thankful to God for blessing the world with your presence, if there were more Bill Austin's in the world it would be a much happier place! By the way...my parents were also huge fans of you, Bill. If you get this message go and meet up with them and make them laugh for me ok?
God bless you Bill. Thanks for all the wonderful memories.

My Youngest Daughter, will always treasure He & Beth calling her
for her "6th" Birthday,& the joy he so brought to her that day!
His overwelming personality, unlike any other. Ally, decidingly sang "opera" much to her singing the National Anthem & as he spoke "so awoke all listeners" that early morning. She is now 8 yrs. old & she sings all the time & beautifully,...brings tears
to ones eyes. Upon hearing of his passing, most shocking.
She said she will never forget him! We need to look up,as he's up in heaven now & he's making everyone laugh & hope Beth knows, that she will be watched over everyday. She so thought they were married... & she says, that Bill will be able to hear her singing in heaven now! She will never forget him. After seeing his pic,...So thinks that Justin Bieber resembles him!!!! How touching is that?
I hope he knows, that he has left,a huge impact on her.
Sending hugs to BILLfrom Ally!
Beth,....You are admired & loved as well. Such a wonderful friend & Sister to him. You & your family are in our thoughts.
He WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN by our Family. THANK-YOU BETH & BILL!!!!
Lets get a "Bill Austin Day" out here!

Just want to thank you KEZ FAMILY for this tribute today. I have listened to the Beth & Bill show off and on for many years. Now I listen to Beth & Friends through the internet at work from Flagstaff. The chemistry between Beth and Bill was magic! I can't believe Bill has left us - listening to the show today brings back so many wonderful memories. I wish we could bottle up all these bits so we could have them always - on bad day you two could turn it around. I know Bill is watching us from up above and telling us to continue to laugh - it is the only way to live life!!!!

I lived in AZ from 2001-2009, during which time I listened to Beth and Bill on my drive to work and even at work whenever possible. I moved to MN last June, and today I am streaming KEZ so I can listen to the tribute to Bill. I was so shocked and saddened to learn of his passing (thank goodness for Facebook, where I remain in close contact with my AZ friends and thus found out the sad news on Wednesday). It has been a bittersweet morning listening to the tribute, because I keep finding myself getting lost in replayed sessions from the show over the years and for the moment forgetting that Bill is gone, until Beth snaps me back to reality with reminders of this tribute to perhaps one of the finest people on radio. I am sorry I wasn’t able to hear the Beth and Bill show for more years, but I’m so glad I had the opportunity to get to “know” Bill on the radio and realize what a truly gifted and genuine person he was. I know he’ll be missed by many, and will never be replaced.
Sincerely,
Tasha Cosenza
I am so saddened by this loss. I have laughed so long and often with Beth and Bill over the years. I even go pulled over for speeding once and I told the officer that I was laughing so hard at you guys on the radio that I didn’t notice the speed change and he let me off with a warning! God Bless!!!

Beth,
My heart has a huge void in it without Bill. I woke up with Beth & Bill every morning for many years. I know he is in a better place with no pain. God Bless you and all the KEZ family during this time. Thanks for the tribute. One of my fondest memories of you two was once on my way to work somehow you two got off the track with the “Dominica” song and I laughed so hard I had tears, once I got to work, I had mascara running all over. It would be great to hear that funny bit once again to make me laugh and remember Bill. He will be missed.
Vicki Hunter
I listened to Beth and Bill each morning on the way to work. I always arrived with a smile after listening to both of you. I always loved listening to Bill and hearing his voice and laugh. He sounded just like my older brother so I felt like I was listening to family. My favorite skit was when he pretended to be "Captain Billy" in reference to the pilots caught trying to fly a commercial plane drunk. He was a great guy and I will truly miss him.
Ellen
I"m sitting here laughing my *ss off as I listen to the tribute to Bill. Beth, you are an incredibly strong person. My condolences to his KEZ family, but as I listen to everyone tell their stories I can't help but be struck by how lucky we all were to have known him in some way. What a terrific person. Thank you all for putting together the tribute and helping all of us in his listener family find closure.

The tribute show this morning was great. I didn't think I could listen because when hearing the news of Bill's passing I felt like I'd lost a dear friend. I never met Bill but I rode to work with Beth and Bill for over 10 years: he made me laugh, he made me think and to think of others. With those memories I knew I'd have to listen and I'm glad I did. The angels are having a good time today and forever and I'll always remember you.

It was a sad day when I heard that Bill had passed away. My condolences go to Beth, little Vinnie, and everyone with the KEZ family. Although I never met Bill, like those messages before mine, I felt like I knew him through the "little radio show". I began listening to Beth and Bill during the holidays 12 years ago and for the last several years, I've listened to them everyday on the way to work (I continue to listen to Beth and friends). It's truly the world's loss (and heaven's gain!) that we will not hear his voice again down here! May you rest with Angels and tickle God's funny bone! RIP Bill!

What a true loss! My son and I would go to Paradise Valley Mall the day after Thanksgiving every year. He was so very nice, and even though my son has Cerberal Palsy and asks one question after another, he was so nice and answered his questions. I know he is in heaven. God Bless Bill and all the KEZ family.

Bill,
You could make me laugh on the worst of days. I moved to the valley in 1989, and I’ve loved listening to KEZ over the last 20 years. My heart was broken when you retired in February, and now I have to give up my hope that you might come back someday, at least for a visit. I loved your quick wit and your open mind. You were never too judgemental on people who saw the world differently from you. I will miss you!
Margie
Bill was such a funny and talented man, and I will truly miss his daily dose of humor. Their show brightened my tedious drive to work, and at the office every morning. I was so saddened when I heard the news of his passing. The radio waves won’t be the same without him. I feel like I have lost a relative, and we never met. Even though the show must go on, there will never be another one like yours.
Lori Hefner
Love You, Bill!!! I woke up at 4 a.m. this morning to make sure I didn't miss a minute of today's tribute to Bill. And I RARELY wake up in time for work at 9 a.m.!
My hope for everybody who loved him takes his cue and treats everybody with a little more compassion in this world. We all need it during these rough times. Love you, Bill Austin. You were a great man.
Michael
I have been listening to Beth & Bill in the morning since the beginning. My heart is very heavy today! Thank You Bill for all the laughter. For the days you lifted my spirits. Your memory will not be forgotten. Hang in there Beth, your in my prayers.
Grace
A couple memories that still bring a smile to my face are when Bill did the Swedish guy on the birthday corner! The other memory is the banter between him and mama Jo. You could tell that he was/is a true part of Beth’s family. Thank you for the many, many years of laughs! God has you now and you will live forever!
Meyer
My thoughts and prayers are with Bill's KEZ family and especially to you, Beth. On the radio this morning Beth mentioned the significance of the 6-2-10 date, and I thought about his age (55) of his death. Knowing that, and thinking about the Birthday Corner, if the individual didn't list their age they were.....55 (and I can hear his voice saying fifty fiiiiive). Somehow I think Bill had it all planned, the date of his death, his age, and the anniversary of the 20 years it would have been today.
I will always remember him and how much he made (and Beth) me laugh on the way to work, I'm sure people driving by thought I was nuts sometimes! Who cares!! :-) And I will continue to laugh with Beth And Friends!
God Bless
Cindy
Bill may not have had a large family of brothers and sisters but he had even more "family" with everyone who loves him. Greatness is not defined by how many you love but how you are loved by others. Bill will always be in our hearts and I will remember him always. I love you Bill...

Now he and Braddah IZ are together in Heaven!!! Rest in peace, Aloha Bill!!!!

I didn't wake up with Beth and Bill, however I did ride to work with them Monday through Friday. I was always laughing my way to work, even when I had to sit on the 202 for over an hour. Dealing with the traffic was made more enjoyable with Bill.
I feel like I have lost a close friend.
Rest in Peace!

While I am only 28 years old, I remember my mom driving me to school every day and we listened to Beth & Bill. It was a great way to start the day, in a great mood. I would listen to Beth and bill as I grew older, and listened daily on my way to work. In a way, I grew up listening to their wonderful chemistry and laughs. I am so so saddened to hear of Bill’s passing, it was too soon to lose such a great talent and big hearted, genuine man. He was a joy to listen to and laugh. I know that he is bringing his joy, compassion and kind hearted humor with him to Heaven. Rest in Peace Bill, you will really be missed. Thanks Beth & Friends for your memoriam, it has helped.

Bill,
My heart broke when I heard the news of your passing. I spoke to you only once on the air and will never forget how kind you were to me. Thank you.
Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your life you will truly be missed. May you rest in peace Bill.

Beth, Vinnie, Marty, Lisa and All:
Thank you for allowing us to remember Bill in such a loving way. I was fine until Beth said her departing words and then “Over the Rainbow” began to play. Bill was a unique and talented man. I often thought that he didn’t know how truly gifted he was. I feel blessed to have had him as my radio buddy all these years. I was sad when Bill Clinton left the White House because his imitations of him and his antics were priceless!!!
To say he is missed is an understatement. Please let us know if there will be any services for Bill and send my regards to his mother.
Thanks for the memories and may he rest in peace—

Gosh, the way I’ve cried my eyes out the last two days over the loss of Bill Austin, you’d think he was a member of my family! In a way, he was - I regularly watched him do the weather in California and was thrilled to learn he’d moved to Arizona about the same time my family did, 1985-86. I was surprised but tickled to find the Beth & Bill Show – for the last 20 years it has been my daily dose of funny while driving to work with the I-17 southbound crowd. My condolences to all who surrounded him with love. He will be missed. Great tribute to him this morning.
Susie Wedemeyer
I’m sure Bill is scratching his head and wondering while all the fuss. Well, Bill, it is because you brought such joy and laughter every morning to your “little radio show.” I’ve been a loyal KEZ listener and thoroughly enjoyed the banter between you and Beth. I loved your Captain Billy impression during birthday corner as well as doing Bill Clinton. When you got Beth laughing so hard that she would start snorting, I would be laughing just as hard in the car or at work. It is truly amazing how low key you wanted your life to be that we all feel that we lost a family member or a dear friend who made a difference in Phoenix. Rest in peace.
Kathy Boyle
Beth,
I have been listening to you and Bill for the past twenty years. I was brought to tears while driving to work on Thursday morning when I heard the news of Bills passing. You two brought many out loud laughs and enjoyment during my drive to work each morning. I read another post where a listener had mentioned that others in passing cars must of wondered what was up as were laughing hysterically in our cars, and all the while being accompanied by only you and Bill. This was true of me also. Not only was your program entertaining but also a wealth of knowledge. Thank you so very much for the experience of letting us share a part of your twenty year friendship. Even though I never met Bill in person I feel like I have lost a dear friend. He will be missed always.
Sincerely,
Jeri Sheriff
Bill was the funniest man on radio that I ever heard. Being new to the Valley in 1991, I started to listen to 99.9 and watched 12 news and it was Bill that I was drawn to. His wit, humor and sense of what we listeners needed are why I have remained a loyal fan of 99.9 KEZ. When I worked next door to the radio station I also wished that I would have run into him in the parking lot. I will in his memory continue to listen to Beth and Friends and because Beth’s humor, wit and beauty will continue to carry on the excellent tradition that they both started it will remain my radio station for life. We will miss you and even though I had never met you Bill, you made my day happy and I thank you for that! Rest in peace, Bill.

RIP Mr. Bill Austin..You shall be dearly missed. My heart broke when I heard of the news of your passing. It's sad I will never get to hear your voice again.
I have woke up with Beth and Bill for many years and have always enjoyed everything about that show..all the laughs and good times. Definitely the best radio show around! Thanks so much for the awesome memories.
Please accept my heartfelt sympathies to your friends and family members. You shall be in our hearts forever Bill..
God Bless Always.

Dear Beth & KEZ Family,
You and Bill were such an important part of my mornings for a loooooooong time! And, of course, Bill remains my all-time favorite weatherman. It seems like Bill was just always around, and now it's so sad to realize that he's not there any more. Although, he always will be in spirit. May your memories of Bill bring you peace and laughter to comfort you always.
Sincerely,
Cindi Campbell
Hi Kez Family!
I am not a very good english speaker so I forced my self to speak and listen more english and learn those english casual expressions and two years ago when i came from Mexico to live and work here at phoenix, one morning I found your Program Beth & Bill …and wao! I though this was the best way to start my english lessons! and my day! I really love this program. I am not just learning english with you guys but I learning that is necessary to smile every morning.
I saw the news on tv that Bill passed away and my wife and I felt so sad… he just gave us a very good times , we are going miss his laughs and his humor sense that maked my morning!
Sincerely
Angel Escamilla
I guess God needs humor, wit, wisdom, compassion and an all around awesome person. So, he took you from us too soon. My thoughts and prayers are with Beth, Vinnie, Lisa, the entire staff at KEZ, Mama Jo and the many many friends of Bill's. The tribute today was wonderful and heartbreaking - I usually drive to work laughing. Today, I drove to work crying. Rest in Peace, Bill - I will always remember you with fondness.

I was so saddened to hear about Bill. I've listened to Beth & Bill on my way to work since I moved here 18 years ago. Bill would always make me laugh, especially when he laughed. His laugh was infectious and it made me laugh even more. I feel like I've lost a dear friend and can't imagine how difficult this past year and his passing has been for his radio family. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
Sincerely,

My wife Debbie and I met Beth and Bill at AJ’s while we were doing a demo of our Family BBQ Sauce. Bill was very complementary of the sauce. He gave us a signed picture of you and Bill; it is up in our home office, as a cherished memento of our meeting someone who Loved and Cherished life so much. I was getting on the internet on Wednesday, when I spot Bill’s picture, the caption shook me to the point I had tears in my eyes, I couldn’t or didn’t want to believe this had happened. I listened to the show this morning for about 3 hours, laughing and with tear in my eyes and a heart hurting for you and the KEZ Crew, what a monumental loss to this Valley. I hope KEZ will produce what you feel is the best of Beth and Bill in the Morning, on a CD where we all can get a piece of utter laughter and joy.
God Bless you all and be with you. Beth, I hope you enjoy continued success, and as you said the “Fat Guy” is sitting next to you and always will.

I’ve been listening to Beth and Bill for the last 15 years and Bill never failed to make me laugh in the morning—especially those difficult Monday mornings! He and Beth had that special magic together. I feel like I knew him—like he was my neighbor. I’ll truly miss Bill and am so thankful he stuck around to make us laugh so long. He will be missed every day. My condolences to Bill’s family, Beth and the whole KEZ family………
Julie J from Phoenix
Condolences to everyone. Beth, you did a fabulous job this morning with your tribute to Bill…you had me in tears, both in sadness and laughter. Well done. No one could ask for a better memorial tribute.
Jan
I have listened to Beth and Bill from day one. I loved the show, I laughed all the way to work. Bill you will be missed. Your sense of humor, the chemistry between you and Beth and your unending charm always came through. I knew when you retired that you were sick. You had been out sick so much in the months before that and we all just knew. It was still a shock though to hear that you passed away. My heart is so heavy. It made me feel better to know that Beth was there beside you when you went. You are so missed Bill and thank you for all the years of laughter.

I am crying as I write this. I loved Bill and his antics with Beth every morning. They kept my wife of 40 years and I sane getting ready for work. He made us remember to laugh. God sends special people into our lives to help us cope with the stress of life. He was not a perfect person I am sure but he was God's ambassador to me reminding me to smile and laugh and love. All of us within range of the station glorify the Lord for sending him to us. I know he is in heaven and I will see and hear him again when I get there. Saint Peter I am sure is really enjoying mornings listening to an angel and Bill on KHVN 1111 Radio 1 in heaven. We will always love you Bill. Rest in peace my friend.

We want to send our condolences to Beth and friends and all those who have close ties with Bill. Having watched him on TV as a weatherman and listening to him on the radio all these years, we feel as though we have lost a member of our family. Thank you Bill for brightening up our lives with your wit and charm – you will be missed. Rest in Peace.

I wasn't fortunate to ever meet Bill, however I too felt as if I know him. My heart breaks for those of his "family" as they deal with his loss. I felt this poem would be helpful during this time of grief. In loving memory:
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.
Take care,
Angela Scott (listening since 1997)
I moved to Phoenix in 1999 and have listed to Beth & Bill for 20 years. You both brought so much joy to so many people. Bill was so talented and funny, he made you feel like you knew him personally and we all wished we did. This was such sad news and he went too soon. He is at peace now and not in pain. On day we will all see him again & he will make us laugh again. Until then we have many great memories .
Beth you did a great tribute show today and he was lucky to have you by his side for 20 years and especially at the end. As hard as that was for you it is the ultimate act of love & kindness. Your a wonderful person and my thoughts & prayers will be with you in the upcomming months while you adjust to not having your best friend there .
Sue Q/Phoenix
PS Vinnie did a great job on air during Wednesdays show which I'm sure was not easy.
Beth and Bill were always on the radio when my wife and I drove to school together every day. Your show always made us have a great laugh and gave us something to think about, often being the topic for discussions in our classrooms. I loved the impressions of Bill Clinton and the "electric radio box" lady. what I will miss the most is the chemistry you all had. bill would get beth laughing so hard. You guys made me laugh so hard I would have tears in my eyes, which is great unless you are going down a hill on 59th avenue. We are retired now so we listen to Beth and Vinnie when we are doing morning errands. but you all made our day. thank you.

I was very sad to hear of Bill's passing. I started many days listening to Beth and Bill in the radio and he always brought smiles and laughs. I loved watching him on the cooking show and he had such a way with people and brought fun to everything he did. Bill will be missed more than words can say, but he will be watching from above and smiling.
RIP Bill!
Tina Malefyt
I was just listening last week while leaving town on vacation and said I wondered what happened to Bill. I came back on Wed. to hear the very sad news. I never knew him or Beth but also feel that they have been such of a part of my life in Phoenix. I have been here and listened for almost 20 years. I hope he knew what an impact he has had on so many people that not only knew him but to those who did not know him. I am amazed at the outpouring of thoughts and prayers that have come from the entire valley. I have never seen people respond to a radio personality the way that people have responded to this and that alone says a lot about him and how many people he has touched over the years. My thoughts go to all of his family and friends.
Kathi Amen
I never knew Bill personally, but after you listen to someone on the radio for years, you start to feel like you at least knew a part of who they are. He brought so much enjoyment to early morning drives with his witty humor and vast knowledge.
My condolences to his friends and family - he will be greatly missed.

I am glad that I was able to listen to Beth and Bill for almost 20 years! What a talented, wonderful man Bill was; I will miss him. Very few things in life are constant, which is one of the reasons why the Beth and Bill show was so special to me and hundreds of thousands of other loyal listeners. I moved to the Valley in April of 1990 and shortly thereafter discovered a little radio show called Beth and Bill. At the time, I had no idea the show was brand new. As my life had its ups and downs, so too, did Bill's life and Beth's life. What a daily treat to listen to them!
Two shows stick out the most in my mind. The first was when Bill was marveling over the baby quail in his yard following him around. Bill was so excited he sounded like a little kid! And of course, who could forget Bill's recollection of Beth in her wedding dress?!
Thanks for such great memories Bill!!

How lucky was I? Very…to have had the pleasure, the insane joy of knowing Mr. Bill Austin. A gentleman, wise sage, court jester, and true friend nonpareil. I will miss him more than words can say. I mourn his loss with you, Beth, Marty, Vinnie, Lisa and the rest of the KEZ family….and I thank you for sending him off with all the love in the world, to a waiting Jim Ranaldo with martini in hand. God Speed my dear, sweet friend!

A true shining star went out on Wednesday when Bill passed. I always enjoyed listening to him in the mornings waking up, and on the way to work. He will be missed by all of his friends and listeners. Heaven now has a new funny guy that I’m sure will keep everyone laughing, just as he did for those here. Rest in peace Bill, and my condolences to all of his friends and KEZ family. In closing, the tribute you did for Bill this morning was wonderful and fitting for his life, and showed everyone what we will truly miss. God Bless you Captain Billy.

Great tribute show! Hearing Bill’s voice today was like hearing from an old friend. May he RIP or more appropriate for Bill, may he have a RIP roaring time as he looks down upon us.
Long time listener,
Debra
I listened to the tribute today with a smile on my face and sadness in my heart. Beth and Bill have always been a blast to listen to and even more fun to visit. I will always treasure the fond memories of my occasional visits, especially the audio tape I have saved of Bill interviewing my 2 young sons at Seamus's on St. Patty's Day many years ago when they pretended to be McBeavis and O'Butthead. Beth my condolences.
Sincerely,

Radio and TV personalities have a special place in our culture. They entertain us, sure, but more than that they connect us to each other and to places and to fond memories of our past. I was born and raised in Phoenix, but moved on to "conquer the world" shortly after college. My Mom continues to live there and for the past twenty years our daily conversations were frequently peppered with her trying to retell a story of something funny Bill said or how hard Beth laughed. It never meant much at the time; just something for us to share in our chats. When she told me that Bill had passed, I ended-up helping look up some information on the tribute show and eventually stumbled onto the pictures and comments. I then clicked the link and listened to the last three hours and found myself reliving fond memories of the Phoenix I recall from my childhood; not just the place, but the community and the very unique "Arizonaness" that no one can really appreciate unless they've been a part of it. For the first time in many years, I actually missed "home."
Beth and Bill and the extended KEZ family certainly embody what I'm talking about. And, although it has been years since I listened to Bill or saw him on TV reporting the weather, I immediately felt the connection that so many others have written about here. Bill clearly was a part of Phoenix and Phoenix a part of Bill and the Valley is a little darker today as it mourns the loss of one of its favorite sons.
Aloha, Bill...

I woke up with Beth and Bill on my long commute to work. He always seemed to positive and fun. Certainly made the drive to work much more enjoyable and helped get me to work in a good mood. I have missed him since he left. He had a way of softening Beth's political rants. Although I never met him, he seemed to be such a intelligent and caring individual. May you rest in peace Bill Austin and may your memory be eternal.

I have listened to Beth and Bill for many many years every weekday morning on my way to work. The Good Lord does take the good ones but he needs to have the laughter of Bill as much as we did. I will never forget him. Made me smile every morning on my way to work. God Speed Bill! You will be missed

I can not imagine two more perfectly paired people, together as a team that truely brighten the lives of so many people in this Valley. I feel we all were truely blessed to have had the fortune of listening in on your lives over
the years and making us all feel like we were a part of both of your gift of humor and your love of life. I lost my father on June 2, 2000, so I will always have Bill on my mind as I do my father on that day in the years to come.
It would be so nice if maybe the station could play an episode of Beth and Bill once a week as a living tribute to the best team on radio! I know I would love the chance to keep on laughing even if it's only a memory!
My thoughts and prayers are with you all!

I was stunned to hear of Bill's passing. I had listened to Beth and Bill for years and laughed on the way to work every morning at their bantering and quick wit. I never met him personally, but he always struck me as such a kind human being. God must be short of angels, so he took Bill to keep the light shining on us all. May God bless all those who were with him in his final days so he was not alone.

I have listened to Beth & Bill from the beginning and loved every minute of it. You started my mornings with laughs, many times laughing so hard I was crying in my car or at work. I remember when you would come back after a commercial break Bill would identify himself as someone else like Roseanne Barr or Bill Clinton, etc. The cooking show, friends-day-wednesday, the news, as only Beth & Bill could do it, just made the show one of a kind. Besides my friends, the only thing I missed about moving out of Phoenix was not getting to hear Beth & Bill every morning, certainly not the heat or traffic. A year ago a friend told me about how to tune in online and listening to the show felt like I was with old friends again. I listened to the tribute to Bill this morning, it brought back so many wonderful funny memories, thank you Beth I enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you Bill, you are one of a kind God blessed you with such talent and a heart of gold. You will be missed the world over. God bless your sweet spirit...

I wish I could count the many mornings I sat in my car at work laughing at you and Beth. Thank you for being a part of my mornings and always bringing a smile to my face. My thoughts and prayers are with those closest to you, how I can't imagine their pain. May you rest in peace and know that you touched many, many lives.

I drove to work every day with Beth and Bill. I will truly miss him. He made me laugh every day.

Captain Billy’s in-flight announcements and the Singing Nun imitations-----priceless. Thanks for the memories.

My wife and I moved here eight years ago from Ohio and had no other family around … for about two days … and then we found Beth & Bill. He reminded me of me in so many ways (even looks) and we’re about the same age. Even though we never met (something I am so sad about), he was my daily best friend from then on! Beth … you are a strong and wonderful woman and we love you, wish you the best, and hope we can meet some day! Bill … you will be sorely missed but your humor, keen insight and beautiful laugh will live with us forever!

Today's show was a beautiful tribute to Bill. The last song by IZ brought tears to my eyes and was a perfect end to the show. I wore my Hawaiian shirt today, and went to Albertson's in Glendale and the cashier asked me if I was wearing my Hawaiian shirt in honor of Bill, and she said so many people were coming in with Hawaiian shirts today! I wondered why Bill retired in February, but never heard why...and now I know. He was such a funny guy and made me laugh every morning driving to work. I particularly enjoyed his Captain of the airlines gig on the birthday corner, as I am a former flight attendant. Thank you KEZ for the show today, as I feel as I know you all!

Thanks ļ Bill I have listen to you for many years and you always put a smile on my face each morning. You will be missed. I hope that heaven knows that they are getting a very very special person and they will all love you as much as I have.

I started listening to Beth and Bill in 99 and made sure I was listening every morning when Bill did What's This World Coming To. It was one of the highlights of my morning. Listening to B&B alleviated a lot of stress during my commute and my morning. I wlll always remember too Bill playing The Saber Dance while teasing Beth about her holiday frenzies. God bless Bill! My heart goes out to Beth and all his friends and family. I hope Bill is making God laugh right now.

I have 20 years of fond memories, from trying to teach Bill how to do the Macarena to all the times he and Beth hosted the Downtown lunches for us. We had a lot of laughs over the years—but right now my heart is broken, and my sympathy for Beth and the KEZ family is overwhelming.

We moved to the valley about the time Beth and Bill started on 99.9 . I have never enjoyed a radio show more than that show. Bill was hillarious and will always be special to us. I would see him around the valley from time to time and he was always very pleasant. I still have coffee stains on my dashboard from he made me laugh one morning on my way to work. Hew will be missed but never replaced.

I have tears in my eyes as I write this. I feel like I knew Bill from listening to Beth and Bill for so many years while driving to work. He was down to earth, kind hearted and, most of all, very funny. He did such good impressions of well known people and I’ll think of those and laugh. A fond memory is also when he did the Swedish guy for my birthday a few years ago. Bill, we love you and will miss you. May you rest in peace.

Voices on the radio are so much more than that. Their conversation speaks directly to us and makes us part of their lives. This news of another friend lost to cancer brings the knife of pain that only time can heal. May blessings of healing and peace flow over his family of co-workers and listeners in this painful time. Maybe he and my favorite "Golden Girl" Rue McClanahan, are standing in queue together in front of the Pearly Gates sharing tales of making their loving fans laugh.

My first memory of Bill was as the dreamy weatherman that my older sister had a crush on. She was delighted when we went to some sort of event where she got to meet Bill in person and get his autograph--it was on her wall for years (and is probably still somewhere in her house!).
I re-discovered Beth & Bill in college--their humor got me through many a long drive, worries about exams, etc. When I got married and started having a horrendous commute every day, Beth and Bill made the drive bearable. I always looked forward to his impressions and especially "What's This World Comin' To." I will always remember his wit and gregarious personality. We won't see his like again.

I have truly enjoyed listening to Beth & Bill every morning for the past 20 years! I was extremely upset (still am) at the loss of Bill yesterday. I sit here all day listening to the radio and hearing KEZ replay his voice and it makes me cry with sadness. He was truly a remarkable man and will be extremely missed. My heart goes out to his family and to Beth and the whole crew at KEZ who lost a family member, friend, coworker and one truly awesome man.
You will be forever in my heart Bill.

I listened to Beth and Bill each morning on the way to work ( ring your dinger) and sometimes I laughed so hard I cried. He was so good a poking good hearted fun at everyone especially Mama Jo. It was obvious they had a special bond. I know you all were his family and he part of yours, we all will miss his laugh. I will miss is Scooby Doo and Bill Clinton impressions.
I feel so lucky to have attended one of the cooking shows while they aired and he was as funny off air as he was on the air.
God be with you all and know that Bill is watching down over all of us and making the angels in Heaven smile.
Prayers and Love to all,
God speed Bill.

I never knew Bill personally, but I sure feel like I have lost a member of my family. I enjoyed Bill’s weather forecasts when he was on Channel 12 and I have enjoyed listening to Beth & Bill for so many years. He brought so much joy to the radio and television and words cannot express how much he will be missed. He was a true valley legend and will keep us laughing for many more years through our memories. My thoughts and prayers go out to Beth, the entire KEZ family and to all Bill’s friends. RIP Bill!

Right up until the end Bill had the show in his heart. He passed away at age “55” on “Friends-day Wednesday”, and signed off at “10:00 am”. So sorry to hear about his passing. I woke up with Beth and Bill (ding) every morning on my way to work. My thoughts and prayers are with Beth and the whole KEZ Family. I look forward to the Celebration of his Life on Friday.
Bill, I know you’ll keep ‘em laughing in Heaven.

Alot of us here at the office loved the banter between Beth & Bill. Many days the show was a “water cooler” topic, which brought smiles through out. A classic favorite is the Captain Billy segment. We would love to have a CD of the highlights of the show, that way the laughter would continue for us, and the memories would never end. Bill Austin was a very special person who will be missed by many. The Beth and Bill show was a wonderful way to start our days as they were THE magical morning team, who aired their views on various subjects, and most of the time with humor.
Beth you are an amazing person, and have a huge respect for your strength and perseverance to put on this show – love the fact that Bill was indeed a true member of your family. Rest in peace Bill, and Beth, continue to forge ahead with your quick wit.

My husband introduced me to Beth and Bill on Christmas 2005. Since then I have been listening to you on my way to work and at work. I love listening to your silly topics and sometimes will call in. Bill is a real asset to the team and I was really sad when he left because the team that made me forget the drive to work is gone. Bill, you will be missed and don’t worry, Beth will continue on with you in our hearts. Goodbye Bill and God bless!!

If it wouldn't
be for sadness we could truly never appreciate the happiness others bring into our
lives. Good bye Bill..you'll be sadly missed. Beth, you will not mourn alone.

Dear Beth and family:
I will tell you how much I loved listening to you and Bill. We are pretty much conservatives and my husband would always say why do you listen to Beth and Bill they are so Liberal. Well I said I can block out the political stuff but I start my day smiling just listening to them. I would listen to you both while walking with a smile on my face. It was nice to listen to him laugh. We started with him at Green Bay and then when we moved out here in 88 there he was in Arizona. I have been with my boss for 22 years, we are a dental team but more family and I can't imagine how brave you have been today but how important it is to celebrate Bill's life, he is a twinkling star in heaven, and oh how he is cracking them up. God Bless you all!

My mother adored Bill. When she was 85 years old, we were in the VIP section for St. Patrick’s Day at Rosie’s. My mom, Betty McKenna, talked Bill out of his balloon hat, then gave him the advice to stay away from marrying again, as divorce is too expensive. He laughed, gave her a hug, and posed for a picture with her. She is now 87, and never thought she would outlive Bill. Thanks Bill! Keep them laughing in heaven!

I have cried so much since hearing about Bill. What a great, funny man! Beth and Bill were the best duo. It is hard for me to think of saying one name. Their names will be permanently linked together. Bill always made me laugh. He did great voices.

I have never laughed so hard as when Bill and Beth did the bit on the self-cleaning rest rooms. When Bill said it was like a giant bidet and as they were both laughing so hard you could barely hear them, Bill said B’day Mate. I thought I would wreck my car. I had to pull over and laugh till my sides hurt. Bill is truly missed.

It was so shocking to hear Bill is not longer around us. One morning one of my friends turned on her little radio in the office and said, “Listen to this show, they are SO funny, If you don’t like it within 15 minutes, change the station” she said as she left the office for a Meeting, Well . . . 15 years later, I haven’t change the station. Bill (and Beth) were there while I drove my daughter to school, going to work or simply enjoying a cup of coffee and just listening to their magic. This morning was the first one that Bill actually made me cry. Thank you for ALL you did and all those fun mornings. You will be deeply missed and I hope Beth, your friends and family find comfort in their hearts with all the happy times and memories. We will always remember you and as you will love us to do, we will keep listening. You are without a doubt making Heaven a little more fun.

Bill,
I am reading all of the comments listeners have wrote here on your tribute page. Tears are literally rolling down my face. I have to ask myself, why do I feel so much sadness at the loss of someone I never actually met? I get a sense from the entries here that many people are having the same emotions. My explanation is, I think a little bit of your soul traveled through the airwaves each morning, and into our cars, our homes, and our places of work. We could all get a sense, just from hearing your voice, that you were an honest and good man. And we could obviously tell that you were a very funny man! I am 27 years old, and have lived my entire life in Arizona. I literally grew up listening to you and Beth in the mornings. From being driven by my mom to school, then driving myself to school, then driving to ASU each morning, and then finally to my job now. Along the way, there were many, many mornings that I did not want to be awake so early and on the road. And then you would make me giggle, let out a "ha", or sometimes, just plain laugh so hard I would start to cry. And then, I would forget all about a crummy morning in traffic, or a woke-up-late-mad-dash kind of day, and relax, and just enjoy my morning like we all should. For this, I will be forever grateful. Everyone you left behind has respect for you and fond memories. In the end, that is all any of us can ultimately hope to achieve with our lives, no matter how long or short. Thank you again Bill, and good luck with your new radio show up in heaven! We will miss you down here!

I NEVER watched the weather forecast before Bill Austin. That was my time to visit the tinkle-torium! After finding Bill on NBC I always watched to find out what degree of HOT we were having here in AZ. I was a terrible ‘channel hopper’ on the radio before I found Beth and Bill. One morning I was switching channels and heard all this laughter at 99.9 and I was delighted to find Bill Austin on the radio too! Captain Billy, Bill Clinton, What’s This World Coming To, “the radio box is playing” guy, (did that character have a name?) the Swedish guy - too many to name! He made me laugh so much! I woke up with Beth & Bill, showered & dressed, got my kids ready for school and drove to work with Beth & Bill. My family & I always watched Beth& Bill’s Cooking Show on Saturdays. Boy were we disappointed when that went off the air! When my 16 year old son died in 1999 I thought I would never smile or laugh again – but I did - listening to Beth & Bill. My 23 year old daughter is so sad about Bill. She grew up listening to him. My husband and I are wearing Hawaiian shirts Friday to celebrate Bill Austin.
To Bill’s family of friends and fans I share in your sadness.
Bill, thank you for all the laughter.

I am still very very saddened to hear of Bill's passing. Although I have never met him, I still feel that I had known him for years. He brought joy to my world every morning while listening to him on the radio. What a beautiful person he was! He is now with 'Sweet Baby Jesus' as he used to say, and will be truly missed. 'Memories of ones who have gone will last forever in the hearts of those who loved them' And Bill, Thanks for the memories.

It is wrong to say Bill Austin had no survivors....his extended family at KEZ, Channels 3, 10 and 12 as well as the many friends and loyal listeners deeply mourn his too early passing. After listening to Barry Young today, I will be going Hawaiian tomorrow!
RIP Bill Austin!

I had the honor of working with Beth and Bill for a year. I am hollow this morning after hearing the news. Bill was "one of a kind" and the Valley is lucky to have had such a great soul to listen to each morning.

It's amazing what you can hear in someone's voice. We could hear how deeply Beth and Bill loved and cared for one another. They were the classiest team in Phoenix radio, and my only choice in morning music and talk.

You have our family's deepest condolences. We will say a prayer for both of You.

I came to the Valley in 1987.
I remember when I came across Bill at Channel 12 I remained a viewer of the station until he left.
I remember listening to him on the radio.

My condolences to any family.

Beth and Bill on the radio is a breath of fresh air. I will miss him, his ability to make me laugh, his caring soul and big heart that just shined through the radio. It will be hard, if not impossible to fill his shoes. I like to think he is with God, making him laugh.

Beth,
I'm listening to your tribute to Bill this morning. I'm so glad you were with him when he passed. It brought back memories of being with my mom a year and a half ago when she passed at Hospice. What a beautiful way to go to Heaven! I moved back to Arizona, after being away for over forty years, in 2004, and started listening to Beth and Bill on my way to work. You started my day with a smile and a laugh-out-loud every morning! My heart goes out to you and the entire KEZ family. Heaven is laughing a little louder today, and I know my loved ones will love Bill as much as I do!!!!

I will miss Bill’s spontaneity. I lived with Beth and Bill every morning M-F since moving to AZ in 2000. I love the way he would play into and off of Beth’s seriousness. The two went together like peanut butter and jelly, complimenting each other always. I will remember and cherish the good times with Beth and Bill in the morning always and forever. Bill, you are missed. Beth, stay strong and remember; he lives in you.

Beth,
Thanks so much for the tribute to Bill today. I hope you will get this on a CD so that we can all buy it. The funds could go to the Walter Conkrite scholarship. It brought me to tears Wednesday, when I heard. It was obvious he was ill, but I sure hoped he would have more time. I tuned the radio to your show early this morning so I would not miss a second. Listening to the show for so many years, is like knowing you both in person. A lot of people are grieving in Arizona. You are strong to put on this show and I am thankful you did. Peace to you Bill!
Thanks,

I never liked listening to morning radio shows until tuning to Beth & Bill on KEZ when I moved to the Valley in 1996. I laughed my way through a lot of commutes. We moved away for 3 years but when we moved back I re-set my radio to KEZ and resumed the laughs. I especially enjoyed Bill’s ‘lectric radio box’ and his imitations of Bill Clinton. He will truly be missed. My condolences to Beth, Vinny & the rest of the KEZ family.

You have my sympathy. Bill will certainly be missed. Just a thought. After hearing about all of Bill's Hawaiian Shirts, some still fresh from the cleaners, I thought maybe auctioning them with the proceeds going towards a memorial for Bill. After reading some of the e-mails listening to your morning show today, I am certain there are plenty of folks interested. Thanks Bill & Beth for all the good times.

First, I want to send my deepest sympathies to Bill’s family and friends, especially those at KEZ 99.9 – Beth, Lisa, Vinnie, Marty and the whole gang. When I first moved to Arizona in 1993, I was here alone. What was wonderful was to find a radio station and radio personalities, Beth and Bill, that reminded me of a crazy duo I listened to in Indianapolis. The humor, the obvious caring, the dedication, the love of their audience – who wouldn’t love it? Bill was one of the funniest guys I have ever “met”. I loved listening to his stories, his voices, but mostly, his laughter. It was absolutely contagious. Spending the morning with Bill – and Beth of course – made my work days shorter and happier! Beth – you are loved by so many, including your beloved Bill – and we are all here with you. I hope you can feel the support and love that is coming from all of us out here. Bill, we will miss you so. Wait – do I here angels laughing?
Lonette L. Turner
I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to have listened to Bill along with Beth from their beginning. The hours of joy are irreplaceable. A little joy has gone from the world. You will always be missed.

When I heard of your passing, I felt like I had lost one of my best friends, and I did. Of course we never met, but I have listened to you and Beth for so many years. Every morning getting the kids ready for school and myself ready for the day you and Beth kept us laughing and talking. Every time there was a birthday for one of the kids I would get up and place my call to KEZ, then wait for you and Beth to announce their big day. So many happy memories are connected to you and ,"that little radio show". You are truly missed. You had a big heart and a very big "family".

I woke up with you for years and you never let me down, Bill – I truly loved you and I will see you in paradise…

I am so saddened to hear about the passing of such a great Arizona icon. For years I tried to get my son to call in and get me a date with Bill Austin. I rarely dated as my son was first and foremost in my life. I wanted one date with Bill because I just wanted to be with a man who could make me laugh. For 15 years, I just wanted one date. I guess it means that I have one more reason to make my son feel guilty. Arizona radio will never be the same without Bill.

My sympathy to those who will miss Bill the most; Beth, Lisa, Marty, Vinnie and the rest of the Beth and Friends crew.
Bill shared his gift of kindness and laughter with all of the lives he touched, even those of us who didn't know him personally.

I am in my late 20's and grew up listening to Beth and Bill with my mom on the way to school, or to where ever we had to go that morning year round. I always enjoyed listening to to Bill and Beth on the radio and listen to Bill as I grew up and could understand the Bill giving Beth such a hard time. After I got older and eventually moved onto my own music tastes I always tuned in around Christmas time to listen to Beth and Bill, and even went a few times with my mother to their Day after Thanksgiving specials.
It was kinda weird not to hear him that much this year. I was sad to hear he retired in Feb, and was sad to hear yesterday that he had moved on. Bill you will be missed but I am sure your making everyone up there laugh in heaven!

For the last 20+ years Beth and Bill have became my family’s morning joy & our morning friends. They woke me up, ate breakfast with our family, they road with us to school. They made us laugh when our 12 year old daughter was in ICU for 5 weeks fighting for her life and they made her laugh when she woke up and started getting better. Although we have never met Beth or Bill they have been an important part of our lives and so have become part of our hearts. We will miss Bill greatly, tears flow freely as I write this. We will continue to be a family of Beth’s loyal Friends waking up with her every morning, listening, laughing and holding her close as we know this loss has to be so hard.
With Sadness and Hope,

I am deeply saddened by Bill's death. I have missed his crazy antics since he retired in Feb. My condolences to his family which I know he considered Beth's family his too. All his KEZ family, friends and listeners. I feel like I've lost a family member. Thank you Bill for all the laughs and smiles you brought us all. Godspeed

Good morning
Although saddened by the loss of Bill, I would love to share what an impact he has made on me! Back in 1996, I was debating whether to move back to Denver, so I sat down and made a ‘pros’ and ‘cons’ list. At the top of my ‘cons’ list (reasons NOT to move back to Denver): No Beth and Bill.
Of course, this was before we could stream on the internet. And I stayed in Phoenix. Yes, Beth and Bill were a factor. ļ Bill, thank you for the years that you gave to us. You will be missed.

My smile has turned upside down. Your humor will be missed. It was fun when you got the chocolates for Beth--which helped "contain" her in her "moments". A great team has one less in it.

Beth, Vinnie and all the KEZ gang…
I am listening here in Outdoor and just wanted to say what a beautiful tribute this is to Bill. We have missed not seeing those colorful shirts and that silly laugh. To hear these blips of his on air time are making me laugh and remember. In passing him in the elevator or seeing him outside smoking he always had a friendly hello even to the end of his time here. It was truly our pleasure to have met him and thank you for letting us all enjoy him one more time.
Thank you,

How do you honor someone with such a zest for life and a down to earth attitude? I met Bill only in passing - certainly nothing memorable to either one of us. But Bill was always there on the radio - basically my whole adult life I listened to Beth and Bill every morning on my way to work. And you always knew that he wasn't acting for the radio. To know that his and Beth's friendship was real and not an act shows how real he always was. So even though I only met him once it was like I knew him as well as any friend. He was funny. He was kind. He was honest. He was hilarious! He will be very, very missed.
Tanya
Bill, you were Beth’s rock….will surely miss you and your wild shirts…..The show’s not the same without you. You were irreplaceable. So sorry for your loss Beth and family.
Thank you,

Bill, you will be missed. It is not true that nobody is irreplaceble. There will never be another Bill. We love you and miss you.

I became of fan of Beth and Bill 15 + years ago. Going to work was the best. I will especially miss when Bill would tease Beth over the halloween bags that she made up for the listeners....He always referred to the bags as crap I believe. Bill you will be missed dearly and thanks again for making my mornings. You made me smile....

All my love, affection & sympathy to everyone @ KEZ. I so enjoyed listing the Beth & Bill , there was always a laugh or two everyday. I don't know what your ratings were but you had to be the most listen to station in the valley. I sure do miss not having Beth & Bill together they were absolutely terrific, nobody else like them & ever will be. Beth, your are terrific on-air, my best to you in all you do & God Bless.
Joana
I loved the Beth and Bill show. Bill was so talented and was gifted with the ability to put a smile on everyone face and in their heart. Without knowing it, I'm sure he prevented a lot of road rage while we were driving to work. The only show I would never miss even when home with a sick day. I think you should create a CD with lots of his funny clips and sell it with the proceeds going to whatever foundation you set up. I do believe it would be the best selling CD all around the USA since you were listened to all around the USA. Prayers go out to everyone who knew and worked with Angel's delight, Bill.

I learned of Bill's passing this morning and was so sad. I miss his voice so much. The Beth & Bill show has always been my favorite. I know it is so cliché but he really is in a better place now. My prayers and good wishes go out to his family, both personal and KEZ peeps. God Speed, Bill!
Roy
No matter how bad things were in my life, he would always make me smile. I don't know how many times I almost had to pull over when driving, because I was laughing so hard. I often said if something should happen to my husband I would pursue him because many of the quirky things that he attributed to his marital demise were things I wish my hubby would do; ESPECIALLY the closing of food bags folding he would do. I do the folding, but I never did the tuck. I will forever think of Bill every time I close a bag of potato chips. Thank you Mr. Bill Austin for the days of tuxedo'd weather to your last silly voice. Thank you for the laughter. Thank you!
Shelly Kelly
I met Bill at a silent auction for a local charity while he was still the evening weather anchor at Channel 12. I talked to him while he was setting up with his camera man to do a remote at 9:00 and convinced him to have a glass of wine. We wound up having three glasses each before he went on the air, and then watched in amazement as he did the weather flawlessly. As soon as the weather was over, he stayed a little longer and talked, and during the entire time spent talking with him, he was funny, intelligent, and kind. He didn't have the sense of entitlement that some celebrities can sometimes possess, and was completely generous of spirit. Humor is the greatest gift one can offer to another...the gift of happiness, and Bill gave it freely. There was never a hint of malice in his humor, and you could only admire the way he conducted himself. He was a class act, and he will be missed by everyone who ever listened to him and Beth or were fortunate enough to meet him, to say nothing of those who knew him well. My condolences to all in his KEZ family.
Jim
I'm one of the many, many first listeners' of the "Beth and Bill Show". For many years i woke up with them laughing the whole morning and there was several years i went to bed with them, it was great way to start my work day and end my work day. it was great rolling down the road with you Captain Billy.

Oh, Beth....
I'm just sitting here this Friday morning, outdoors at a Starbucks with an iced coffee and KEZ in my earbuds like I spend many mornings. I just listened to your account of Bill's passing at Hospice of the Valley and am crying rivers right now hearing of his last moments. It brings back many memories of my father passing from cancer five years ago, and the last day(s) at hospice mirror Bill's. To be with one you love, holding their hand, and Bill was family to you, at the moment of their passing may be sad, but a gift to be treasured. My dad hung on til I returned to the midwest from here before he decided to go, with all of us holding his hands as we slept on either side of him. You both were very blessed, and he indeed know he was not alone. Bill was very special, and you are blessed to have been such an important part of each other's lives. For those of us wish to honor Bill I would encourage people to donate to either the scholarship fund that I know you will help in setting up, or especially to Hospice of the Valley. They are truly a gift to patients and families in these circumstances. To be there at the last gives so much comfort to all involved.
Bill will be in our hearts and thoughts for many weeks to come, and it will become easier to think about him with smiles and laughter minus the tears in time.
God bless you all,
Kristin
My sincerest condolences on the loss of our friend Bill Austin. Moving here from Chicago in 1994 we were looking for a radio station to listen to. We happened to be going to Fashion Square Mall and noticed an event with a very pretty lady in a black dress and a witty and charming man dressed in a shirt that made an entrance before he did….We listened and laughed and loved that show with the two people we consider our morning friends.
Listening to your show lasted through two marriages. One funny story that I always wanted to call in and relate to you guys just My sincerest condolences on the loss of our friend Bill Austin. Listening to your show lasted through two marriages. One funny story that I always wanted to call in and relate to you guys just to hear Beth’s laughter and Bill’s comments: My wife at the time (1999) was seeing someone from her company and after the discovery, we decided to divorce and with that, visit the doctor and get a check up, go to the dentist before the insurance changed. While I was in the dentist chair, Beth and Bill was playing on the radio. You had Fred Raulins on and were taking calls. Well, my ex-wife called in because she was traveling and sat next to a guy on a plane, exchanged numbers and she wanted to know if there was something there….I turn to the dental assistant and say, “that’s my wife on the phone…” She turns ashen and goes to get the dentist….who was playing the lead role in Fiddler on the roof, Tevya. So with this beard and old world look, he puts his hand on my shoulder and says. “Robert, when one door closes, another door opens.” We finished listening to the segment with all the dental assistants and the dentist standing around my chair. It was a riot because your show was always associated with fun.
When I get to heaven, I’ll tune into to 99.9 and listen to Bill. And if he isn’t up there, I’ll ask to go where he did. Thanks for the many years of pure enjoyment.

Dear Bill,
Thank you so much for always bringing a smile and a laugh to my mornings. I will always miss the Swedish Chef, the Bill Clinton impressions, and your razor sharp wit that brightened my day. You have made a difference to so many of us---thank you for sharing yourself with us from channel 12 to KEZ. Just like Johnny Carson is probably showing you around Heaven right now, I hope you're there to show me around when it's my time.
Janey
I loved Bill as the Channel 12 weatherman. He made a dull segment enjoyable. Then he joined Beth to make my mornings (even the lousy ones) great for almost two decades. Beth has a wonderful laugh, and Bill brought that out a lot. They made me tear up from laughter daily. He was bright, funny and sweet. Though I only met him a few times at the Black Friday events, I had a longer relationship with him then most people. I will miss all the razzing he gave to Beth during the holidays....Especially Halloween and Christmas. I'll miss The Swedish Guy and all his other voices. Though we will all miss Bill, I'm sorry for Beth, Vinnie and Marty because you were close to him for a very long time in a way we were not. Thank you Bill for all the joy you gave us.

I emailed Bill last week...I hope he was able to read it. He was an important part of the Arizona airwaves.
Bill has left a "Grand Canyon" size hole in all of his"TV and Radio" families hearts. I hope he knew how much he was loved and apart of our families. Beth, Marty, Mama Jo, Lisa and Vinnie, please know "your" radio family will be supporting you through this very difficult time. We care....

Bill,
I regret that I have only known your humor and personality for a fraction of your time in our community and a small fraction of my own life.
With mention of a death within the radio community this afternoon you immediately came to mind. Moments later I found that you had passed from our valley to a life beyond. My heart went still as I saw your picture on the screen. Moments later as they recounted highlights of your life I fondly recalled moments where you touched my heart as well as the hearts of my children and family. As I fought back my tears I reminded myself that you had indeed lived your life as only you could, that you had no regrets, that you had touched lives even beyond your own understanding, my own included. I knew in a moment that tears could not capture your spirit nor your essence in our culture. I knew in that moment that tears would be the least of your desires as you passed. To capture your spirit requires each of us to live joyfully in each and every moment in every day. To live fully the blessings bestowed upon our lives and savor every moment. To honor you is to laugh every day, to live our dreams with reckless abandon, to dance as if no one is watching and to spread joy and peace in to the world around us.
This night my heart goes out to your closest of friends, especially Beth as her admiration for you is forever imbedded in my heart. Those closest to you may suffer the greatest loss yet they were fortunate enough to know you the best. What a blessing you have been to them.
Bill, you captured our hearts with your humor, you inspired us with your awareness of our community, every morning we looked forward to your infectious laughter and your uncanny ability to laugh at the world around you while inspiring others to do the same.
Tonight heaven rocks. You are the guest of honor and have everyone rolling on the floor. We are jealous yet we have smiles on our faces knowing that you are peaceful and content. The smiles we share today are those you left behind that helped make our lives complete. Thank you once more for blessing our lives as you have.
Bill, you have been just a ripple in the ocean of life yet that same ocean could never be the same without you.
May you continue to create ripples wherever you may go...
You will be missed beyond belief.

Sending my condolences to everyone there at KEZ. I wish I had called in before or wrote more emails to tell him how much he touched my life. when I first moved here, I had to ride the commuter bus, I hated it, then one day I came across this radio show and thought to myself wow this is a funny show. right away I heard the great banter and two people with the same outlook that I have. it made the commute something that I actually looked forward to because I would hear you two. I remember him mentioning the target store on 19th ave, and from his recommendation I went there and loved it. I would always hope that one day I would run into him to say hi and tell him how much I loved the show. anyway, just a short note to say how much I appreciated his laughter and humor and to hear his voice everyday. Thank You.

We moved to Arizona in 2004. My family discovered your show by a word of mouth. Everybody I know listens to Beth ad Bill in the morning. We tried the station we all fell in love with your morning show. You made us laugh on our way to school. you made us laugh on our trips, you guys were with us every morning. My husband and I would call each other to talk about you guys. My kids loved to listen to you. We are all saddened by our big loss but we know that now Bill is with God and sure he is making him laugh. We love you both and sure it is not going to be the same without him.

It was disappointing when Bill retired from the airwaves on February 25th: it is overwhelmingly sad to know he will never again grace our lives with his magnificent sense of humor and common sense look at life. Farewell my radio friend.

Many of us were privileged to attend high school in Roswell, NM with this clown Bill Waggoner. He's been making life fun for people long before he got to Phoenix! We will miss seeing him at our 2012 class reunion (he made those fun, too) and look forward to hearing him on that BIG RADIO IN THE SKY someday. God's blessings, Bill! Thanks for all the laughs!

I have a hole in my heart, with Bill gone. I loved, loved the when he and Mama Jo went round and round. Also, when he was calling for chocolate for Beth. Holidays were meant for him to ramp up Beth, counting down the days and what she needed to get done. Heaven is brighter place, thanks to Bill.

I was so sorry to hear that Bill Austin passed. I loved listening to the Beth & Bill show – they both made me laugh - but Bill – his sense of humor was wonderful and most times, I’d be laughing so hard, I could barely drive. I will miss all his characters, his teasing Beth about her Christmas shopping, and his joking with Mama Jo. Beth, I hope you were somehow comforted by being with Bill at the end. You, Vinnie and Lisa, have lost such an incredible dear friend – my heart goes out to you all. I will keep you all in my prayers.
Godspeed Bill!! Thanks for the laughs and for the memories!!

I was a fan of Bill Austin from the first time I saw him on Channel 12; watched that news every night just for Bill's weather forecast. When he moved to KEZ, I had already been listening to Beth for some time with several other partners. So I was thrilled to "get to know Bill" on the radio too. I've been a faithful listener and "woke up with Beth & Bill" every workday morning. They were with me on my ride to work also. And depending on where I was working at the time, often listened to their show until 10am from my office. As a matter of fact, I was either the first or one of the first $10,000 winners on their show one morning. What a thrill!!! And it couldn't have come at a better time in my life too.
I shall miss you Bill and have for the past few months. I enjoyed your laughter, your jokes, your characters and voices!! There's not another one out there like you. I still listen to Beth and Friends though it's just not the same without you. I was so sad to hear of your passing. You and I are the same age and it's just too young to go. Though my faith tells me you are in a better place and a place without pain. For that I'm happy for you.
I know you are keeping my friends and relatives laughing and I look forward to seeing you again one of these days! The world is a sadder place without you.
Pam
Bill will be forever missed however, the memories will live on forever. Bill always put a smile on my face and made me laugh when I didn't think it possible. Heaven has a special angel now -

Dear Bill Austin,
While I never got the chance to see you in person I have spent many mornings driving to work and listening to you and Beth on KEZ. I looked forward to your program and laughing and listening to your antics. When I changed hours and started working the night shift I was not able to listen to your program and I missed your laugh and the things you and Beth did that made you two such a great couple on the radio. I now miss you more than ever may god bless you and I hope that you are working in that big radio station in the sky. You are missed.

I moved from Ohio to here and was very excited to turn the dial and find 99.9. There were many times that both of you made me smile even though I was sad because I was so far away from family. I always smiled when I heard Bill's voice whether he was looking for chocolate, playing his trumpet, or even saying the marching band was coming to cut of Mama Jo! (As I am a huge ND fan loved hearing that!!) He will always bring a smile to my face and he will have a special place in my heart!
My Deepest Sympathy,

Back in 1947 aliens crash landed in Roswell NM, and a few years later, Bill Austin was born! It’s been said the he was adopted, so there you go, now we all know where Bill got his crazy, zany personality. I have had a lot of great laughs over the years listening to KEZ, thanks to Bill and to Beth. We will miss Bill sorely, and look forward to seeing him again on the other side. Can we get James Van Praugh on the air again soon so we can let Bill know how much we love him and miss him? Thanks for the great memories.

What's This World Coming To? I came to Arizona in 1997 and remember listening to Beth & Bill as I would commute to work. They had a way of always putting a smile on my face each morning, Of course, my favorite was Bill's "What's This World Coming To"? I'm so glad Bill had a freind by his side when he passed. I know heaven will be a much better place now since Bill Austin arrived. God Bless!

Sending my sympathies to all of Bill’s family, co-workers, and friends. I loved listening to Bill for the last 15-16 years…..and will always miss him. He may not have had his own family but he had all of us out here who loved him. I’ll never forget his great impressions, What’s the World Coming To, and just his unique personality. I used to go see Beth & Bill at PV Mall at the start of the Christmas seasons. Beth & Vinnie – you have lost a dear and true friend, may the fond memories of Bill bring you comfort.
God speed Bill.

Since we moved to Phoenix in 1993, our mornings have included Bill and Beth. In fact I would call my husband or he would call me to share a "laugh out loud moment" while driving to work! I always thought what are people thinking when I was alone in the car and just laughing out loud! When we heard yesterday about Bill, we felt as if we really knew him and felt such sadness. Our sympathies go out to the KEZ team during this difficult time. We will miss him.

I was listening to the news and just felt my heart sink at the loss of our friend Bill. I have lived in Scottsdale over 40 years and he was such a part of my daily life. I never meet Mr. Austin, but through the years I felt I knew him like a family member. I am without family, and it was enjoyable to listen to Beth and Bill each day.
I will miss him, and pray for his family and friends.Beth you where a true sister to him. You should be so proud of yourself in so many ways.Thank you.

When I heard the news I literally burst into tears. I can't think of any other celebrity that would affect me that way. But Bill was so much more than a celeb, I feel like I've lost a dear friend, as I'm sure all of us fans do.
What a treasure he was, and will always be. Thanks Bill, for all those wonderful memories.
God bless.

I am extremely saddened to learn of Bill Austin’s passing away. When I lived in Phoenix, I first become acquainted with Bill as the Ch 12 weatherman. Then I followed him, listening to the new Beth & Bill show on KEZ. When I moved from Phoenix, I would try to catch Beth & Bill when I would return for a visit. With the development of the internet, I could now listen to Beth & Bill from wherever I lived – which I did. He always brought a smile to my face, as I know he did to many people. Bill was one of the few entertainers that could make me laugh while sitting by myself in the car driving down the freeway. May you rest in peace, and thank you for the fun and wonderful memories. My heart felt condolences to his family, his professional family, and all those he touched. Bill left this world a better place. Arizona and the broadcasting community have lost a legend.

My Condolences to the entire Clear Channel family on the passing Bill Austin.
I remember moving to the Valley in October of 84 and shortly after seeing a familiar face from the Los Angeles TV market...good old Bill when he joined Channel 12 as the weather guy. I wondered about his decision to move to radio, but soon afterward knew he had found his comfortable place. I enjoyed many a morning listening to Bill and his on air "wife/sister", Beth McDonald.
Thanks for the great times,

Remembering Bill,
WOW, Bill has been coming into my home and car for over 20 years. I remember him on Channel 12 weather, and making living in this heat so bareable as he would broadcast 122 degrees.... Moving to TV with the Beth and Bill Show and to Radio, I find myself in tears writing this, not because Bill is gone but because I never got to tell him "Thank you for all the smiles!!!" KEZ, Bill's Family and Dear Dear Beth, your in my prayers and thoughts. I know Bill is dancing and cooking singing his favorite song. I hope we all can do the same as we celebrate HIS wonderful life!!!

I remember when my family moved to the valley back in 2001 when I was 12 years old. One of the first things we did when we arrived was find a radio station to listen to when driving to school each morning. The one that we finally decided on was 99.9. Every morning from then until I graduated from high school, I would be driven to school or whatever else was going on that morning listening to the Beth and Bill show. I remember listening to Bill every morning and laughing hysterically at his jokes. Even if I was dreading the rest of the day at school, I would always have him to cheer me up before setting out. There were even some times that my mom and I were able to call in, which were always amazing times. She would be on one phone with me on the other, hoping that we'd finally get past the busy signal and actually hear ringing. My greatest memories though will be from the St. Patrick's day celebrations. When I was able to go up and play fiddle for them I was always excited and proud that I got to play on the show that I loved so much. Those memories will forever be meshed with my childhood.
Bill, you were one of the funniest people I had the honor to meet and you will be missed by all.

I am saddened to hear about the passing of Bill. He has been a member of my household for many years. I grew up listening to Beth and Bill and my mornings will never be the same. My thoughts and prayers are with Bill’s many friends and family.

Dear Beth and Vinnie,
I was deeply saddened by the loss of Bill this morning. I will miss his humor and the fact that he can aggravate Beth like no one else can. I know as Bill would say “Keep reading….”
Vinnie, I’m proud of you for keeping the show going, which was a big tribute to what Bill would have wanted for the show to go on. I can’t tell you what a difference Beth and Bill have made in my life and that of my children. God Bless Bill and keep him under His care. Beth and Friends you have my prayers. PS don’t hurt us too much with the show on Friday. I was a complete mess when he retired and I got to work red eyed and crying, all my co workers wanted to know what was wrong and all I could say is Bill Austin’s retired today. Yeah, you guys impact all your listeners this way, it’s like family that you choose to be around. Loyal listener and FOB supporter.
Elvia Davis
What a sad day for all of us. You will be missed Bill!! May GOD help his loved ones and the KEZ staff get through this.

He was such a great guy. It still hasn't sunk in yet. He made my day many mornings.
Kathleen
I listened to Bill with Beth on my drive to work from the first day he joined KEZ until he left on February 25. Listening to Beth and Bill was the jolt I needed each morning to face the day ahead. Bill always made me laugh as I drove to work fighting traffic!! I am sure there were many who thought I was nuts laughing to myself in the car!!
Bill, you will be dearly missed, but never forgotten! RIP!

Oh my, dear friend, what joy it was
To spend with you, these days
Your cheer, your charm, your quickened wit
Such gifts that I cannot repay
And how the years have flown right by
How I wish that they could last
How hard it is to soon accept
That all these things have passed
But in my heart, and in my mind
And in my memory
These days live on, and you are here
Beside me, where you’ll always be
Such friendship can’t be torn apart
By only death alone
Much stronger are the bonds of love
Much deeper are the paths we’ve worn
Oh my, dear friend, how sad it feels
To have to say goodbye
But I know one day we’ll meet again
At that big ole Morning Show in the sky

Four years ago, when I was new to Phoenix, a friend said that I might like to listen to the Beth and Bill show in the mornings. How right she was. I missed you when you retired. Heaven, which I know you are there, has a really fun and compassionate guy. You will be missed.

I’ve listened to KEZ (discovered the Beth & Bill show) since probably 1995. Bill was always the highlight of my morning – I loved “what’s this world coming to”. What a great sense of humor and quick wit. He will be missed and remembered fondly. Beth, I’m sorry for your loss and of course everyone in his circle and family. I can only imagine what you all went through these last few months. When he left back in February, it was a shock, but it was obviously the best decision he had made. What a GREAT guy!

I am so sad to hear of Bill’s passing. Beth and Bill helped me thru my separation and divorce from my first husband. I have never laughed so hard on the way to work. I never was mad driving in the traffic. It just gave me time to hear them. God Bless you and boy is heave having a laugh and a party. You were amazing. Well deeply miss you!

I have been listening to Beth and Bill from the beginning. (Ring the dinger). They always made me laugh and put me in a good mood for work. It would be impossible for me to say how much Bill will be missed because I couldn’t even come close. My heart and prayers go out to Beth and the K-EZ family.

It doesn't seem like 20+ years; first on Channel 12 then on KEZ, the Cooking with Beth & Bill Show, the laughter on the way to work and in the office; Captain Billy - my favorite. Bill you will truly be missed - you were an icon in the Valley. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and your KEZ family. The good Lord must've needed some laughs upstairs to have taken you a way from us. RIP!

I am so saddened to hear of Bill Austin's passing. What a wonderful sense of humor; he always made me laugh and I really enjoyed his funny take on things on Beth and Bill in the Morning. My condolences to the KEZ 99.9 family. He was truly loved and will be greatly missed.

I’m heartbroken to hear of Bill’s passing away……I truly enjoyed hearing his voice every morning with Beth. I have to say that Beth and Bill were our first friends when we arrived in AZ nearly 14 years ago, we did not know any radio station and then we discovered them and we then felt not so alone in a new state.
Heaven now has an angel with a great sense of humor! We will always remember Bill.

It was so shocking to hear Bill is not longer around us. One morning one of my friends turned on her little radio in the office and said, “Listen to this show, they are SO funny, If you don’t like it within 15 minutes, change the station” she said as she left the office for a Meeting, Well . . . 15 years later, I haven’t chance the station.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Bill’s passing. He had a way about him that made the listeners feel like true friends. Even though I never personally met him, I am sad. I hope my dad is able to meet him in heaven and be able to laugh with him as much as I did here on earth. Prayers & sympathy to all of Bill’s family & the entire KEZ staff.

Very sad, what a loss. There are few people whom can make you feel like a friend when you've never met. Bill did that for what must be millions. What a unique and special soul. He was already missed when he retired, now even more so. My condolences to his good friends and family and to Beth. Nothing can fill the void I am sure, but the love you had for your friend. Rest in peace.
Kathryn
I like thousands of others have been blessed by Beth & Bill laughter each and every morning. I know for myself listening to the show was part of my daily ritual for many, many years. Like many of us, even though we never had the privilege to meet you we all feel that you knew us. You made our gloomy days sunnier and brought laughter to thousands every day. I personally knew if my days were gloomy all I needed was to listen to you to bring sunshine and laughter to my day.
I'm a true believer that we all have a purpose on this earth and an even higher purpose in the next stage of our lives to come. Our higher spirit above blessed Bill to bring sunshine and laughter to everyone that he met and those of us who listened to him every day.
Bill you will be deeply missed. You have touched my heart and brought sunshine and laughter to me for so many years. I know you're in a much better place and most importantly I believe you will be looking down at all of us and you will continue to bring us laughter and sunshine. The would would be a much better place if there were more people like you. A candle shines bright tonight in remembrance of you.
My sincere condolences to your family and friends. Beth my deepest condolences to you. I saw a beautiful butterfly this morning shortly after 10am in my flower garden.Bill you have been released and you will live in our heart and souls for many, many more years to come.
GOD BLESS YOU and YOUR SOUL. WE LOVE YOU.

While living in Phoenix I listened to Beth & Bill every morning - laughing out loud with them and loving the show and their camaraderie. I moved out of the country 2+ years ago and honestly admit that is is one of the things I miss about living in the states. While visiting Phoenix I would always turn on their show. I am so saddened to learn of his passing. He will certainly be missed.
Tina
I listened to Beth and Bill for years (even attended a taping of Cookin with Beth and Bill) before moving to Sequim,WA but I still visited there Website all the time. I think they were the best thing to happen to morning radio ever.I even had the biggest crush on Bill for years (who did'nt) I will miss him dearly. As for Beth, keep strong and we will continue to listen to you. You are in our hearts forever.
Love always' Kate
When I heard the news as I was driving on the 101, I almost had to pull off the road. I t was too hard too believe that that funny funny man, that I felt like I knew as a friend even though I had never met him, was gone. The Beth and Bill show has been my favorite since they started almost 20 years ago. I still remember their first radio broadcast together and I have been hooked ever since. My sincere condolences to Beth, Bill’s family and friends and KEZ staff. It would be just like Bill to sign off at 10a.m., just like the show.
Barbara
What a very sad day to learn about Bill Austin's passing this morning! Bill was always funny and joking around! I don't think there was ever a time when he wasn't happy or laughing! I remember as a young kid he was the weather man on tv on Channel 12 along with Patti Kirkpatrick and Kent Dana. It was sad a few months ago when he retired from radio after almost 20 years w/KEZ and with Beth! I know that Bill will be making everyone up in heaven laugh and smile! My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and everyone at KEZ radio. R.I.P. Bill -Ricky in Phoenix, AZ |
I can't believe how very shocked and saddened I was to hear about Bill's passing. What a sad, sad day. I listen to the show in the morning on my way into work and it just hasn't been the same without Bill along side Beth, with their great chemistry and perfect comic timing. I saw where someone wrote that although the world has lost Bill, he's probably making people in heaven smile and laugh, and I believe that has to be the truth. Rest in peace, Bill, you will forever be missed.
Bonnie J.
My sincere condolences go out to Bill’s immediate and his extended family at KEZ. The community has lost a wonderful person who’s great charm and funny sense of humor will greatly be missed. May he rest in peace.

Many people miss out on the simple equation of life of just loving and laughing through to the end. You exemplified that for us throughout your years here in Phoenix, and you will be missed, cherished and remembered. God Bless you, Heaven truly laughs a little more today.
Much Love and Respect,

Bill would have me laughing so hard I would cry. When I heard the news yesterday, my eyes teared for a different reason. My heart and prayers go out to his family and those family members at the radio station.

Words cannot express how sad I am. I've been listening to Beth & Bill since 1989 when I first moved to the valley and they felt like family to me. There were so many times when I would be in my car laughing uncontrollably! I was fortunate enough to meet Beth & Bill many years ago at the Wildlife World Zoo and their graciousness left a great impression on me. My condolenses to his Beth, Vinnie and the rest of his KEZ family as well as all of his other faithful listeners - we have all lost a friend.

I'm sure many listener's feel the same way, Bill was like a friend. I heard him daily on the Beth & Bill show until he retired in February. I missed when he left and now to know that he is gone....I am deeply saddened. My thoughts are with Beth, Vinnie, Marty, Lisa, and the rest of his family, friends, & listeners. Somehow I can't help but think he is up in heaven cracking God up with his wonderful wit!

I have lived in the valley since 1991. Shortly after started listening to Beth and Bill. The Chemistry that they had was so perfect and the voices that Bill would do kept me wanting for more. My daughter (Morgan) would listen to 99.9 on the way to school and would laugh along with me. She would sometimes get to call in and talk to Beth and Bill and win movie tickets or theater tickets. Bill would gladly do the voice of "Jerry Lewis" "Hey Lady" for her and we would be happy for the rest of the day. He would always comment on her cute little giggle.
FUNNY HOW SOMEONE YOU NEVER REALLY MEET AFFECTS YOUR LIFE, JUST BY LISTENING ON THE RADIO. I feel like he was a brother and I only heard his voice. It helps me believe that we do make a difference,
One person can make a big difference in our lives. Bless you Bill and Beth you are in our prayers! Bill will be forever missed, Thank you Bill for touching our lives.
Debbie and Morgan
Beth and Bill are a symbol of what makes Arizona such a great place. When you listened to them, you were listening to extended family members. Thanks Bill!

Arriving in AZ in 91, I was fortunate to find Beth and Bill on the radio and have been a loyal listener ever since. Bill was not only funny and quick witted, but thoughtful and clever. He has been and will be missed. Rest in peace Bill.
A listener.
I have never been so sad about the passing of some one I never met. Bill was like part of the family, the goofy uncle every one loved. Rest easy Bill.

Recalling the wonderful weather reports, especially hot summer days given with a touch of humor was a delight. After Bill went to KEZ we were delighted to find him on the Beth and Bill Show. His humor always lifted a heavy heart and someone I never met became family. Thank you for all the good memories and may his family, his KEZ family and friends find the happy memories a way of easing the loss.
God Bless, Audrie Baker
As a native of Phoenix, I remember watching Bill from his early days as the weather man. As I grew up, I started listening to Beth and Bill in the late ‘90s. If I was having a rough start to my morning, I always knew that I could tune in to Beth and Bill and they would always cheer me up. My worries seemed to melt away when listening to them. I even got my husband tuned into the show when we got married, and our favorite part was Bill’s 55; we still say that whenever we hear of someone turning that age :)
I was completely shocked to hear about Bill’s passing; he was a great entertainer and we will miss him. Beth, Vinnie and Bill’s friends/family are in our thoughts.
Patty & Renzo Rosciano
Hi everyone,
We are as stunned as most all of you. . . . . . .it seems like just yesterday that Bill was talking at Jim Ranaldo's service and who would have thought his days were numbered, too. Life is truly too short. . . . Bill was very special and we will miss his wonderful sense of humor and his generosity and big smile. When you wre out and about with Bill, we always called it the "Bill Show" as everyone was drawn to him. He brought out the best in those around him. Many of the good things he did will never to known to the public. . . . but we were lucky to know him.
This once again is a lesson to all of us to enjoy every day and to appreciate friend and family more. We know that Bill has crossed over to a better place and he is now happy. I think we'll watch some the classic Cooking with Beth and Bill vids this weekend to revisit how special that show was. Our warmest wishes to Beth, Linda, Marty and all to knew and loved him. He was one of a kind. . . . .Take care.
Warm Regards,
Mike Davin and Larry Bradley

I’ve been a listener of Beth & Bill since moving here in 1994 from the Globe-Miami area. I missed you dearly when you retired, but like others have said here, Earth’s loss is Heaven’s gain. I have been riding to work with Beth & Bill and listening when I got to work for just over 10 years. 10 years of a great start for the day. I always looked forward to it and just hated it when 10:00 came. I couldn’t wait for the next day. Sometimes I laughed until the tears started; some co-workers gave me strange looks. I didn’t realize I laughed so loud. Even though deep down I knew Bill’s time was coming I am still so sad. I will miss you Bill!
Lots of love,
Linda
You will be sorely missed!
Thank you for making my periodic drives from Prescott to Phoenix in the early mornings so very enjoyable. You and Beth are the greatest! Your memory will live on in our laughter! Beth and the KEZ crew, I hope that you receive strength from your faith, family, and friends during this difficult time!
Bill, I know that those in Heaven have already set your mic up!
Thanks for the laughter! Your Prescott Fan!

KEZ,
I just want to say how sorry I am about Bills passing; I was surprised when I was listening to the radio on my way home. You are all in my prayers, and my heart goes out especially to Beth and Mama Jo, I know just by hearing you guys together the past 20 years you guys were more like family not just colleagues. God needed another Angel by his side so he called on our beloved Bill, You will be missed Dear Friend.
Patty
I first discovered Bill Austin on Channel 12 when I moved to the Valley in the mid 80’s…I would tune in sometimes just to catch the weather to see what Bill would say, because I knew it would be entertaining. Little did I suspect that someday I would be Bill’s immediate supervisor at KEZ. I was smart enough to learn to just stay out of his (and Beth’s) way and let him be Bill on the radio…because he knew how to do that so well…to all of our delight! There wasn’t a day that went by in almost 6 years, that he didn’t share a great, funny story with me in the hallway following the show…sometimes we would literally spend an hour, standing in the hallway, sharing laughs. That will always be a special memory for me. Thank you Bill for your genuine humor.
Shaun Holly
How can you care for someone so much that you don't even know? Bill (and Beth) have been a part of my every morning since moving here in 2001. I related to Bill being my same age and his humor started my day off right. He will truly be missed and I feel like I lost my best friend. We love you Bill.

There are not too many things i missed when I left Phx, but listening to Beth and Bill every morning was definitly one Bill cracking me up ever morning while I was sitting in traffic was the best medicine to cure road rage. You could tell which people lined up on 7th Street were listening to the show cause they would be smiling. I loved it when he made Beth laugh so hard that she would snort and he could always get Mama Jo's goat. He was a natural commedian and the rapport between he and Beth made them the best morning show ever. My heart breaks for Beth and for all those who knew and loved Bill.
He will be missed!

It devastated me when Bill retired back in February. To hear of his death today breaks my heart. He will be so missed. He always made me laugh in the mornings. I had the pleasure of meeting him once, and I will never forget that.

Bill, as you go on your journey, make all the people above smile and laugh just like you made us all smile and laugh everyday.
We will miss you.

I came to work at KEZ at a real low point in my career and made ends meet doing a lot of grunt work for the station. It was a humbling experience, but it was the people at the station who really made a big impression on me and helped me find my way and turn my life around. KEZ was like a big family, and I was fortunate that they welcomed me in, including Bill Austin. You don't expect the morning show folks to have much to say to you, especially the ones who also do TV. But KEZ was different and Bill definitely didn't fit that stereotype. Bill always was genuinely interested in people, no matter who you were. You could be the guy working all night or you could be the guy who signed the paychecks, but Bill treated you with the same respect. I never did learn much about him while working there because when you'd talk to him, he'd make the conversation all about you and anyone else in the room. You don't find many people like Bill Austin. We're fortunate to have had him in our lives, whether as a colleague, a friend, or just as a friendly voice on the radio.
John Davis
Bill was so humble, I don’t think he really realized the effect he had on his listeners. I tuned in to KEZ from the beginning of his “run”. I will never forget his musical bantering towards Beth of the things she had done or needed to do to get ready for Halloween and/or Christmas. I will never forget his humor. God and his angels must surely be laughing tonight. I am so sad. The loss is that of a dear friend or family member. May his family be comforted in knowing there is no more suffering, no more struggle – only peace and humor, which he loved. Thank you to whatever entity or genetic combination or evolution gave us Bill.
Carrie
My girls and I were sad to hear when Bill was retiring from the show because we listened every morning on the way to school, but we were even more sad today when we heard he passed away. Such a funny and talented man will be missed by many. He made us laugh every day.
Nikki
There is a special place for people like Bill. My condolences to Bill's family and to Beth.

I remember back as a kid in the middle 1980s when bill was working for channel 12 news and he landed with Santa Claus at the circle k at 35th Ave and union hills and jerry foster was the pilot. He was just a hoot and from that day on I would watch him when he was on tv or listen to the radio with Beth and Bill and the tv show they did cooking with Beth and Bill it cracked me up when he would play with the food or make it talk or made funny jesters behind Beths back while she was explaining something well bill we are all going to miss your wise cracks and your personality of just being a clown and living life to the fullest god bless you and your family and all your co-workers and may you rest in peace.
Sincerely,
Mike Herring
I thought that the day that Bill retired was a really sad day. Today is even sadder. I am sorry for the loss of everyone involved. Robin |
Bill -- Thanks for all the smiles, the laughter and for sharing who you are.
Be in peace.

I met Bill when I first moved here and he was at Channel 12. I was visiting the studio that night and we literally bumped into each other as he finished the weather. He had joke ready and laughing together was the way I remembered meeting him. Over the last 19 years I have kept up with him on "Beth and Bill," and would "bump" into him occasionally and he always remembered who I was. His heart was huge, his spirit generous and his laughter contagious. My prayers go out to Beth and everyone at KEZ999. Good-bye Bill, you will never be forgotten.

I was so sad to hear about Bill's passing today. I too have laughed and gone to work with a smile on my face for years listening to Beth and Bill. Bill had such great humor! I was so sorry he retired, but now we know why.
Beth, my condolences to you and his family as I am sure your hearts are broken. I know mine is heavy today.
Make them laugh up there, Bill!

Friends,
Having dealt with several severe medical issues for my entire life, I often found the humor of Beth and Bill to make many unbearable mornings bearable. Here is to you Captain Billy. I began missing you months ago.
Jeff S.
Dear Beth and Friends...
Last year we moved up to Washington and yet all of you are still a part of our lives. My husband listens to you online every morning as he gets ready for work and I listen when I can. Today is a very sad day and I wanted to send you our deepest condolances and to let you know that Bill and all of the KEZ family are being remembered up here in the Northwest. I so enjoyed listening to KEZ in the mornings and have had many laughs over the years we lived in Arizona thanks to Bill and Beth and Vinnie et al...it was a wonderful way to start my day!
Thank you Bill for bringing sunshine into the mornings and may you find peace in the journey ahead. Sending hugs and prayers your way, Beth, Vinnie, Marty, Mama Jo and friends...
Always,
Karen Brown
To Bill’s personal family and to his extended radio family, I offer my condolences. I can’t imagine what you are going through right now. May his laughter ring in your ears to help comfort you. I have listened to Beth & Bill for as long as I can remember. So many laughs while I was sitting in traffic jams; that is how I kept my sanity. May God Bless all of you and Bill, take it to heaven buddy…you deserve it.
Patricia
Just wanted to say my heart is broken……

Listen to 99.9 everyday all day long. you will be greatly missed “Bill Austin”. My heart and prayers go out to Bill’s Family and KEZ Family and especially Beth, A Long time Radio friend and Part of each others Families. All of Bill’s jokes and his interpretations of so many famous people and characters will be so missed.
**Hang in there Beth and Vinnie I will be there for you everyday listening and remembering Bill Austin with you **
CECILIA A. STAPLES
Bill,
You and Beth had a very special “nickel and dime radio show” that can’t be matched. You made my ride to work fun and you will truly be missed. Thanks for all the laughs every morning. God Bless.
Christie ;-)
There’s no one like Bill Austin. I remember the first time I heard the show and thought “I’m too young for this, just play music”. How naïve I was. It was a while later when I listened off and on thinking “hey, they’re kinda funny”. And now for the past (ok, too many years to mention), I found myself getting frustrated when they’d play music. No one made me laugh like Beth and Bill. I loved when Bill would his baseball announcers voice and Beth would laugh out of control. No show will ever do for the Valley what this one did and there will never be another Bill Austin.
Rest in peace, Bill. You were loved and you will be greatly missed.
Mary Hennecke
Bill, I never met you but you were like an old friend. I looked forward to hearing you & Beth banter back & forth like an old married couple. You both kept me smiling thru some of my dark & lonely days. I will miss your… “Paula come listen your name is on the radio box.. or this is your captain speaking … or your Scooby do voice.. or Pretty girl, pretty girl” voices. keep that audience in the cloud laughing for us.
We will miss you! Dawn
Today is a sad and gloomy day for all Phoenicians who listened to the witty and always humorous, Bill. I thank you for the many years of smiles and laughter you brought into our sometimes mundane lives. Your life light will shine forever and you will be truly missed!!
Sincerely,
Liz Dodds
Hello Everyone,
I wanted to offer my condolences and sympathy to the entire KEZ and Austin Family. I will miss Bill Austin very much, as I am sure everyone there will also. My parents passed away from bone and breast cancer, I remember the anguish and pain of their illness and yet it was my Dad that held us all together saying that what ever is to happen, he is looking at it as another adventure. I know that no has the answer as to what may be next, but I choose to believe that there is something so much better. My Nana always said, “It has to be a really great place where we go because no one has ever come back and said it sucks.” May the Angels hold Bill in their wings until he has grown his to fly.
Love, Light and Laughter always
Marcella
Bill,
I never met you , I never seen you in person, but I rarely missed you and Beth on the Radio. It's sad you left and had such a short time to take on life. I knew something was up when you left, you had just to much fun to leave without reason. You will be missed. Beth .. it's going to be tough... he family to everyone who listened. We are your friends even if it's just over the air..
Warmest Regards
Paul ...
I have listened to Beth and Bill ever since I moved to Phoenix five years ago--I love the show. To say I was surprised and saddened when Bill retired is an understatement. I was even more shocked to find out he passed away recently. Condolences to his family and friends.
Jennifer
My heart sank when I read the news about Bill Austin . As a listener for over 15 years to Beth and Bill I just could hardly believe he won't be around to make us all laugh. I can't even tell you how many times I had to pull the car over because I was laughing so hard my contacts rolled out from the tears. Those guys made fun of everything nothing was sacred, including themselves! My sincerest condolences to Bills family and also to Beth McDonald who lost a dear friend. I am so very sorry for your loss, all of Arizona will feel his absence.
Cindy Carrillo
I remember watching Bill on channel 12. Then Beth and Bill were my companions on my way to work every morning when I lived in Phoenix. I have lived in Tucson for the past four years, but have told my new friends here about their show...how funny both of them are. Rest in Peace Bill. May your family and friends find the peace they need during this sad time.
Meg Bokhari
I am so saddened to hear the news of Bill’s passing…but what I will never forget is how he made every drive to work in the morning a good one…he had that “gift” of laughter and contagious laugh which could literally turn anyone’s day into a better one after listening to Beth and Bill’s banter! He was always so positive and hopefully you find some solace in knowing how his life touched so many…I bet he didn’t even know what an impact he made on those people who considered him part of their “morning family”. I wish you all the best and know that many prayers and thoughts are with you.
Donna
You will be missed so much by all of your fans. Thank you for bringing so much joy and laughter to our lives over the years. So glad you are in a better place. We love you Bill!!!
Cindy
It is with great sadness I heard the news today. Our world is a little less richer with your loss. You made me laugh. Sorry to see you go. Fond memories.
Eddie
I watched Bill as a weatherman and listened to him for most of the 20 years he was on the radio. He seemed to be down to earth and someone we could identify with. His unassuming ways kept me listening. I felt he was the kind of guy you could probably sit down and joke with – not a celebrity - not a premadonna. He went out the same way he probably lived – privately and without fanfare.
I will miss him.
Chuck M.
I'm so incredibly sad. I have never met Bill but I feel like he was a close family member. I have so missed his voice since he left in February and he hasn't been far from my thoughts. KEZ 99.9 is the only radio station I've listened to for the past 18 years and I'm lost without Bill. Beth my thoughts are with you this has to be such a sad time for you. Bill I'm glad you are at peace and out of pain.
Sue
God has taken back his Angel of humor. There were days he would make me laugh til I cried. God needed a little humor back in the heavens unfortunately we here on earth loss him.. Sad day down here and a freakin fun day up there. God Bless ya my friend. Beth, Vinnie and the whole gang, our prayers are with you all. Take a deep breath for now you all have an Angel on your shoulder.

Devastating news about Bill. He was one of the good guys, not fair that he should be taken from us. My condolences to all who knew him personally. I feel like I did too.

Oh man, I just heard the news about Bill. Just wanted to say that I'm thinking of everyone, especially Beth. I, like many others, are so very saddened to hear that he passed.
Respectfully,

I haven’t lived in PHX for some time but am able to tune in occasionally here in Tucson when the wind is right. I was so sorry that Bill left KEZ and I had a gut feeling something wasn’t right with him. He gave me many, many years of laughter during my 12 years of driving to work at Honeywell. My kids grew up with him on the radio as well as my grandchildren now. Bill was a special guy and will be very much missed by so many of us. My prayers are with his family and many friends—especially his sidekick—Beth. This has to be extremely difficult for her.
Debbie Besser
I've missed Bill since February and just heart sick with his passing. Sincere condolences to the Austin family, Beth and KEZ staff. We were blessed to have Bill while we did, and know that God now has a more important assignment for him.
Vickie
Bill Austin was a legend to people who grew up here. As a Phoenix native I can remember him from my high school years. It will be sad to no longer hear the familiar voice. My heart also goes out to Beth.

Rest in Peace my Dear One. May the Lord surround you in light and allow you to continue to shine on us.

I feel as though I've lost a member of my family. I started listening to Beth and Bill on my way to work in 1995. It was just a part of my daily routine. I watched cooking with Beth & Bill on TV. Bill had a way of making you smile no matter how down you were feeling. My ride to work will never again be the same. Miss you Bill!
Marie
Bill-
Thanks for all the great mornings, my drive was so much better because of you!. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. You will be missed. Beth and Vinnie my thoughts and prayers are with you.

My name is Samantha and I have been listening to Beth and Bill since High school. They made the day fun no matter how i woke up or what had happened before getting into the car and turning on Beth and Bill. He was truly a great man and funny. He will be missed very much.
William
Your show, Beth and Bill welcomed me to the city in 2003, when I didn't know anyone. You kept me smiling all the way to work and even spoke to me on my way to San Diego to see my first grandson born. So many memories, we will miss you Bill and my prayers are with your family and friends, especially Beth, Rest in peace.
Julie McBride
RIP Bill. I am truly saddened to hear of your passing. My thoughts and Prayers are with your family and friends.

I expect to be listening to you Bill when I cross over. Enjoyed your antics with Beth every morning on my way in to work for 20 years, and had a hard time saying goodbye when you left the show.
See you on the other side!!

I only wish I could have told him that I loved him like a best friend. After waking up with Beth and Bill for so many years, you begin to feel as if you have a relationship with them. Bill made my day in so many ways - on mornings when I just didn't want to get out of bed - there he was. With his kind words, his sometimes caustic attitude, his middle aged fat guy jokes - Captain Bill will surely be flying his airline into Heaven. I cannot imagine the gates not opening wide to welcome someone who spent his whole life making people happy. With heartfelt sympathy to you all and to his beloved Mom,
Georgianne Powell
Bill,
Your wonderful laugh will truly be missed by all. My heart is breaking for Bill's family and friends. Since 1995 I've been a loyal listener because of the great and not-so-common friendship found between Beth and Bill. Many thoughts and prayers are with you all.

You gave me tears of happiness and now I have tears of sadness for loosing a person who gave me so many laughs and fun things to remember. You made your life count in ways that so many people never think about. You will be missed but remembered fondly.

I’ve listened to Bill with Beth from his “first dry-run”—still the weather man at Channel 12. He has been part of the Phoenix family for years, and what a huge loss!! Condolences to Bill’s personal family and his KEZ family—Beth, my heart is so sad for you. What a special man.

Bill,
Thank you for decades of warmth and humor. You were always willing to listen to an idea – no matter how harebrained – and provided solid, thoughtful feedback. You are in a far better place and now are free from pain and discomfort. Know that you leave scores of fans and friends, many of whom you never met in person but whose lives you touched none-the-less. You and Beth as well as the entire KEZ morning crew, Marty, Lisa and Vinnie, brought love and laughter to so many people for so many years. Rest in peace, Bill. And thank you for the memories.

I never met you and yet you still seemed like a close friend. I am sorry to hear of your passing, your life on earth may be over but the smiles and memories that you have left behind will stay with us all. I know that someday I will look up and see Captain Billy flying over giving the big thumbs up. For the last time, on June 2, 2010: "The forecast calls for severe clear skies with blowing and drifting sunshine." It's just like you to head out before the 112 degree weather hits. We will miss you!

As I sit here at work, in shock, and trying unsuccessfully to choke back the tears, my heart goes out to you, Beth, and Vinnie and the entire staff at KEZ. I have been a listener for many, many years. I always got a kick out of Bill’s character voices…Bill Clinton was my favorite. Bill was so kind and had a big heart. I have missed him since his “retirement”. Something told me it was more than that…he was out sick for all those weeks, then announcing his retirement soon after he was “better”.
Then today, I look on Facebook and one of my friends had posted the announcement of Bill’s passing. I feel like someone I knew personally passed away, even though I had never met him. Please accept my condolences and prayers. He will be missed even more. Thank you, Bill…for making me laugh morning after morning….year after year…
Sincerely,

My first recollection of Bill Austin was as one of the most entertaining weathermen in the valley. Bill joked around about the weather and was a comedian at heart. His move to radio baffled me, but it was obviously a great decision for Bill and he ruled the airwaves for so many years! Godspeed, Bill. You’ll always have a special place in our hearts and you will not be forgotten.

Though we will all miss Bill, I'm sorry for Beth, Vinnie and Marty because you were close to him for a very long time and in a way we were not. Thank you Bill for all the joy you gave us.
Heather
RIP Bill Austin many AZ fans will miss your voice and humor, may you join all those great entertainment personalities in the Heavens.

You will be missed. I watched you on channel 12 for years and listened to you and Beth for a long time. The show took a political turn and I stopped listening.
But you will always be a part of my memories.
