Currently showing at ASU Gammage is the spectacular hit Broadway play, War Horse, which will continue its run until this Sunday, February 10.

The time is England, 1914.  As World War One begins, Joey, young Albert's beloved horse, is sold to the cavalry and shipped from England to France. He's soon caught up in enemy fire, and fate takes him on an extraordinary journey, serving on both sides before finding himself alone in no man's land. But Albert cannot forget Joey and, still not old enough to enlist, he embarks on a treacherous mission to find him and bring him home.

At its heart are astonishing life-sized puppets created by South Africa's Handspring Puppet Company, that bring to life breathing, galloping, charging horses strong enough for men
to ride. Earlier this week we had the chance to visit ASU Gammage and sneak a peek behind the scenes of War Horse to see for ourselves how the charging horses are brought to life on stage.

I spoke to Danny Beiruti, one-third of the operating team, who gave us a glimpse of the magnificent puppets. To find out more, click on the video report below.

My thanks to Marty Manning for both recoding and editing our interview with Danny.

And if you’re going to see War Horse this evening, Thursday, February 7, stay after the
show and meet some of the cast for a special Q&A session with KEZ’s Talk Back Thursday, co-hosted by yours truly, along with Executive Director for ASU Gammage, Colleen Jennings-Roggensack.
