I was born in Troy, Michigan, "City of Tomorrow...Today," which is just north of Detroit. I wasn't the kid with fantasy of pitching in the major leagues or playing in the Super Bowl -- the only thing I ever wanted to do was be on the radio. That's it. I remember listening to my Walkman between classes in high school to my favorite DJ's and dreaming of the day I could do what they do.
I jumped right into broadcasting while attending Central Michigan University, and ended up working at the local Top 40 station as a part-time janitor and part-time DJ on the weekends. Serious! I cleaned toilets in the trailer (attached to the radio station) between records! I stuck it out and that eventually turned into a full time on-air position that I held until graduation. Shortly after graduation, I moved to Saginaw, Michigan and my first big-time radio station. No scrubbing toilets there!
Along the way I met the woman of my dreams and somehow convinced her that I was the one. Oh sure, she could've married that surgeon, but what fun would THAT have been? Nice cars, fancy houses, exotic vacations.... who needs that? Oh man, I hope she doesn't read this. Kelcey and I were married 3 days before September 11th, 2001. She's an amazing woman and mom who continues to run several marathons a year, including a total of 6 in Boston.
We are raising two fantastic boys - Charlie born in 2007, and Kellen born in 2011. Everything in my life is now focused on those two boys. That means train hunting, geocaching, and baseball games. I bring the focus of being a dad to my job, too. I love this job more than ever, and have promise to deliver fun content that parent's don't have to shield from their children.
I'm loving every minute of my life right now and I hope that comes across on 99.9 KEZ! Let's wrap up the day together!
