(UPI) - Taylor Swift invited a New Jersey teenager fighting leukemia for the second time to attend the Academy of Country Music Awards with her.

Kevin McGuire, 18, of Stratford had invited Swift to be his prom date and his case was bolstered by a Facebook campaign waged by friends and family. The 22-year-old singer couldn't make the June 1 dance but offered an exciting alternative.

In a post on Facebook, Taylor writes, "Kevin, I'm so sorry but I won't be able to make it to your prom," Swift said in a message posted to her Facebook page. "But I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming up. Would you be my date? Love, Taylor."

The Sterling High School senior accepted, provided his health allows.

"Obviously I said yes," said McGuire, who's being treated at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The April 1 country music event in Las Vegas "is a lot better than the senior prom."
