This week's Grapevine Wine Pick features some amazing wines and great food from Eddie's House.
Pine Ridge 2003 Clarksburg Chenin Blanc-Viognier
This clear, almost watery pale wine shows only a faint greenish hue. Delicious grapefruit and melon aromas waft from the glass, dancing with a floral note that likely reflects the Viognier. Crisp and fresh on the palate, juicy fruit and perhaps just a hint of sweetness are nicely balanced by lemon-squirt acidity, leaving a touch of prickly petillance on the tongue. Very refreshing, it could be a classic "summer sipper" served very cold; but there's enough subtlety here to reward letting it warm up a bit so its interesting and complex flavors will show.
FOOD MATCH: Crisp, fresh fruit made it a natural with pan-seared Alaska salmon.

Flying Fish Merlot 2003
The vibrant, medium bodied 2003 Flying Fish Merlot has concentrated mocha, vanilla and blueberry aromas, fresh plum flavors, a hint of oak and a lingering finish.
Small parcels of fruit were selected from several vineyards throughout the Columbia Valley. By blending fruit from different vineyards, the winemaking team at Big Fluke created a well-balanced, fruit expressive wine, with a nuance of oak that demonstrates the outstandingquality of Merlot available from the Columbia Valley. Each vineyard in the final blend contributes important aspects to the finished wine.

Rocco Willamette Pinot Noir
The 1998 Pinot Noir is a bright, deep ruby red. The first olfactory impressions are of a complex combination of spices (cardamom, cinnamon, vanilla), black fruits, and earth. Flavors lean toward black fruits; black cherries and blackberries. Medium-bodied, this wine is unctuous with big fruit and a firm tannin finish sanded by sweetness from the fruit flavors. Imagine cherry fruit from an old feral cherry tree. The finish is long with a nice balance between sweet, ripe fruit and soft, chewy tannins. Drink now or cellar three to four years.
