OPA!! This week we have our good friends from My Big Fat Greek Restaurant returning to share incredible tasting Greek food paired with equally flavorful and crisp Greek wines! My Big Fat Greek Restaurant’s owner, Yianni Koutslis is lending us his every faithful and quite entertaining General Manager and Catering Manager, Lefty, to walk us through the wine selection and food pairing this week.
Boutari Moschofilero (mo-sko-feel-er-o)
Made 100% from the Moschofilero grape variety, which comes from vineyards in Mantinia, a hilly area of southern Greece. This unique grape produces a refreshing white wine with enticing citrus, floral and melon notes and a crisp finish. It’s deceptively light at first, the floral notes beguilingly simple. Then it deepens into honeysuckle notes that wrap around an apricot core, a touch of bitterness joining acidity to refresh the palate.
Boutari Nemea
Boutari Nemea is the classic wine of the Nemea A.O.C. region of southern Greece, a region famed for its red Agiorgitiko variety. It has received numerous awards at international wine competitions. Its color is a deep ruby red with intense aromas of plum, new oak barrel and sweet aging. This wine has a velvet taste, good structure and balance, is round with a long aromatic finish. A wine that will even further develop which with additional bottle aging.
Vatistas
This 50/50 blend of Cabernet and Agiorgitiko is a deep crimson color and has a rich, cherry nose. Mature, dried red fruit is livened by prickly tannin. It has a clean, long finish with lively, acidic end taste.
